Re: Resolution to be Adopted by City Commission for Affirmation of Interest to
Serve as Governing Body for the Riverland Road Area; Proposed Annexation
•
According to one of the provisions of the latest revised local bill pertaining to the
Riverland Road Area, it is specified that "no later than February 20, 2001, the governing
body of each of the cities of Ft. Lauderdale or Dania Beach, shall affirm its interest by
adoption of a resolution to serve as the governing body for the `Riverland Road Area"'.
Attached you will find a draft of a resolution which affirms that interest for adoption by the
City Commission at its February 6, 2001 meeting.
In addition, please note (copy of revised bill previously faxed to you yesterday
morning) that it may be necessary to calendar a deadline date of June 19, 2001, since the
amended bill (if adopted by the Legislative Delegation tonight) also specifies that "the
governing body for each municipality which affirmed their interest pursuant to Section 1 shall,
after having considered the effects of annexation on the residents of the `Riverland Road
Area' and the municipality, have informed the Broward County Legislative Delegation that it
desires to appear on the ballot as provided for in this act via [a] resolution" adopted by the
City Commission to the effect. Consequently, please calendar the City files with an action
reminder item at least two Commission meetings before the June 19, 2001 deadline, so that a
resolution can be timely prepared and adopted.
