HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2001-067 RESOLUTION NO. 2001-067 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING ANY BILLS FILED IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OR STATE OF FLORIDA SENATE REDUCING THE AUTHORITY OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO REGULATE AND AMORTIZE BILLBOARDS WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, local governments currently have the authority to regulate billboards, including the authority to provide for amortization of existing billboards; and WHEREAS, there are several proposed state bills which would adversely affect the authority of local governments to regulate and control billboards; and WHEREAS, The City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, along with the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, wishes to oppose any proposed legislation that would affect its current authority to regulate billboards; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach opposes any legislation that adversely affects the City's authority to regulate billboards within the city limits. Section 2. That the appropriate city officials are hereby directed to send copies of this resolution to Governor Jeb Bush and to the Broward County Legislative Delegation. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. That this resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2001-067 PASSED AND ADOPTED this 24th day of APRIL, 2001. Desjarlais, Couf Ad 'It for SUBJECT: Billboard Legislation Attached, for your information and review, is a copy of Resolution#2001-284 opposing the proposed billboard legislation which has been recently adopted by the Broward County ® Board of County Commissioners. As you are aware, the majority of Broward's cities as well as the county have enacted ` ordinances relating to billboards. The proposed legislation will preempt our ability to enforce our existing ordinances. On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, if your city has not already passed a resolution opposing this effort, we request that you consider doing so at this time, and forwarding your concerns to our Legislative Delegation and bill sponsors.
