HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2001-208 RESOLUTION NO. 2001-208 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA CONSTITUTING AND APPOINTING AN ADVISORY BOARD TO BE KNOWN AS "I.T. PARKER COMMUNITY CENTER ADVISORY BOARD"; DEFINING GENERALLY THE PURPOSES AND DUTIES OF SUCH BOARD; PROVIDING A METHOD OF APPOINTING MEMBERS OF THE BOARD; PROVIDING FOR THE AUTHORITY OF THE BOARD TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH WITHIN THE SCOPE OF AUTHORITY OF THE BOARD; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS, FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Article 3, Part XI, of the Charter of the City of Dania Beach authorizes the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach by resolution to appoint advisory boards; and WHEREAS, the City Commission deems it advisable and proper to have an advisory board, to be known as "I.T. Parker Community Center Advisory Board" to report directly to the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach for the purpose of making recommendations and suggestions on matters concerning the operation and management of the community center located at Houston Park aka/ Harbour Towne Marina. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That an advisory board, to be known as "I.T. Parker Community Center Advisory Board", is hereby appointed and constituted under the provisions of the Charter of the City of Dania Beach. That each City Commissioner is entitled to appoint one (1) member to such Board from time to time, and each appointee shall serve a term of two (2) years without compensation at the pleasure of the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach. Each such two-year term shall expire one week after the general municipal election held in the City in March of each regular general municipal election year. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2001-208 Section 2. That said board shall have five (5) members who shall be registered voters within the City of Dania Beach and each of whom shall have been a resident of the City of Dania Beach for a minimum of six (6) months prior to any such appointment. At the first meeting of the board, the members shall elect a Chairperson and a Vice- Chairperson from the membership and may eventually adopt its own by-laws. Section 3. That any member missing three (3) consecutive meetings shall automatically be removed from the Board and replaced in the same manner in which that member was originally appointed. Section 4. Periodically, the board shall make written recommendations to the City Commission and such recommendations, when received, shall be made a part of • the official records of the City Commission. Section 5. The Chairman of the Board shall have the right to request the City Commission to place on its agenda for discussion any recommendations or suggestions made by the board. Section 6. That the duties of such Board shall be to: (a) Make recommendations and suggestions to the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach on matters concerning the operation and management of the I.T. Parker Community Center for the general purpose of promoting harmony and goodwill throughout the City of Dania Beach in connection with the use and enjoyment of such facility; (b) Make recommendations to the City Commission on issues concerning fee waivers for non-profit charitable organizations that may request to use the facility at no charge. 2 RESOLUTION NO. 2001-208 Section 7. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 8. That this resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately iupon its passage and adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED this 13th day of November, 2001.
