Dear Pat,
As we have discussed, I am very interested in being appointed to serve the
remaining months of Mac's term on the Dania Beach City Commission. I
believe that I have much to contribute to the city where I have spent my entire
life.
I appreciate your words of encouragement when we spoke on Sunday! You
know that I will give my all; and I certainly would appreciate your support.
I assure you that I will not use the appointment as a stepping stone. You have
my word that I have no intention of running for office in 2007.

Biography
Bobbie Hutchins Grace was born in Donalsonville, Georgia on September 29,

"Bobbie" is a positive, outgoing, forthright, and independent attitude.
The Hutchins decided to move to Dania, Florida in 1951 . Upon their arrival,
Bobbie was enrolled at Attucks Elementary School. She continued her
matriculation until 1963, when she graduated from Attucks High School.
After graduation, Bobbie married James Allen Grace and to this union was born
two lovely daughters, Denise Renna and Cheryl Lynette. She has a wonderful son-in-law Bernard and is
blessed with two handsome grandsons, James Dennis and William Bernard.

Dear Louise,
Please add my name to those to be considered to replace Commissioner McElyea for the balance of his term.
Briefly, my qualifications include:
• Twu most-recent campaigns for the position
• Appointments to, and leading service on civic Boards of:
• Airport Advisory Board
• Budget Advisory Board
• Charter Review Board
• Civil Service Board
• Code Enforcement Board
• Planning & Zoning Board
• Continuing voting representation (since `94 inception) on FLL's Airport Noise Abatement Committee
Sitting Commissioners should know:
• My competence from issues-familiarity mean I can step into the position "running."
• I hereby pledge that I have no interest in running a third campaign to retain the seat.
In fact following cruises to Costa Rica, and a thousand miles up the Amazon back to here; I'm booked for an
April cruise from here to South America, thru the Panama Canal, up Mexico, California, Canada and Alaska;
... and I won't miss that!
Altho my personal life hasn't caught up from the prior civic service, I can absorb serving this interim appoint-
ment with my usual dedication, while my personal goal is to board the next World Cruise from Port Everglades.
• My involvement fighting the airport's runway expansion plan has been unabated. With impending release of
the new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), and Part 150(mitigation) scheduled for December; having
the most knowledgeable/effective opponents (as myself)joining the dais can best combat this most de-
structive, pivotal-for-the-city, development.
• Each Commissioner, having been elected in joint campaign-efforts, should have no questions of my integrity.
Appointment is further justified by the electorate having selected Commissioner McElyea's long service
over my efforts by just 100 votes.
Thanks and regards,

City Commissioners
Dania Beach, FL
RE: City Commissioner Vacancy
Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, City Commissioners
Please accept this email letter as my formal declaration of sincere interest in being
considered/appointed to fill the recently created City Commissioner vacancy. Attached is
a brief professional resume.
As you all know I have been active in the City of Dania Beach since the pre-annexation
efforts by the City. What you may not know is that I first was a visitor to Dania in the
mid 1950's, starting with my first vacation visit to my Aunt and Uncle who rented
winters in Dania until they purchased a mobile home in the new Estates ofFt.
Lauderdale. Following my Uncle's death, my husband and I purchased their mobile
home in 1988 to use for vacations. After my retirement from University teaching in
Massachusetts we decided that living in the Estates ofFt. Lauderdale required a bigger
home so we moved up the street and I became more active as a member of several Clubs,
serving on the Board of Directors at the Estates, working part time and being involved
with my professional organizations.
At this time, 1 have the time, energy and expertise to serve as a City Commissioner,
completing the term of the recently resigned Commissioner. I am not in a position to
"run" for a regular term of Office as we continue to return to Martha's Vineyard in the
summer. Thus I would be pleased and honored to be able to serve the City and citizens
of Dania Beach as Commissioner until the next election.
If appointed, I believe I would be your first Commissioner to "come froin the West"but I
would see myself representing all of Dania Beach. Geographically 1 am more familiar
with the western part of Dania Beach (partly from my COP activities during the last 6
years) but as you know from my somewhat regular attendance at Commission meetings I
have paid attention to much that has gone on in the City and commented on some issues
at your meetings. I worked diligently on the Task Force you appointed me to, to obtain
citizen input on how to spend the Bond money on community improvements (streets,
lights and sidewalks). I have been an active member of your Human Relations Advisory
Board for two terms. I am pleased at the progress this Board has made regarding the
cemeteries and creating a process for reviewing and recommending donations to
charitable/non-profit organizations.
While I have never held an elected public office, I have substantial experience on
educational, health and professional organizations and boards. I am at ease speaking in
front of people. I have years of experience presenting professional papers and
participating on panels at the local, state, regional and national level. I am articulate,
ethical, objective, concise if necessary, an independent thinker, aproblem identifier,
problem solver (if I can), and team player. I will, however, vote my conscience, based on
a careful review of information presented and if in the minority, not hold a grudge but
support the decision of the majority. I want the City of Dania Beach to continue its
momentum to move forward, improve its infrastructure and public image, encourage new
building projects (with careful review and oversight), and promote tourism.
I respectfully request your consideration for appointment.
Sincerely yours,
Patricia A. Tyra
