WHEREAS, the State of Florida has recently approved serious budget cuts for the Department of Juvenile Justice, which directly and severely affects the Broward County Juvenile Intake Facility; and WHEREAS, these budget cuts have resulted in reduced hours and a lowered capacity to handle and process juveniles, which in turn forces the police to deliver only violent and serious offenders to the facility; and WHEREAS, since the Facility can only incarcerate serious offenders, all other juvenile offenders who need treatment are essentially returned to the streets to continue their criminal activity relatively unchecked; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City of Dania Beach hereby recognizes that holding juvenile offenders and keeping them off the streets are existing problems that directly impact our community Section 2. That the City Commission hereby directs the City Manger to send a letter to the State of Florida urging the State to reverse its recent budget cuts for the Department of Juvenile Justice Program. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2000-112 PASSED AND ADOPTED this 25th day of July, 2000. j C.K.
