HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2000-182 RESOLUTION NO. 2000-182 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING FOUR (4) CHANGE ORDERS AMOUNTING TO $6,499.00 SUBMITTED BY CORAL-TECH ASSOCIATES FOR REMODELING OF THE BSO RESTROOMS, PROVIDING THAT THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT AMOUNT OF $49,800.00 SHALL BE INCREASED TO $56,299.00 FOR SAID PROJECT; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA; Section 1. That those four (4) Change Orders amounting to $6,499.00 submitted by Coral-Tech Associates for remodeling of the BSO restroom, increasing the original contract price from $49,800.00 to $56,299.00, in substantial form as Exhibit "A", are approved and the appropriate city officials are authorized to execute them. Section 2. The City Manager and City Attorney are authorized to make minor revisions to said Change Orders as are deemed necessary and proper for the best interests of the City. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. The City Manager and City Attorney are authorized to make minor revisions to such Agreement as are deemed necessary and proper for the best interests of the City. Such Agreement and award of the bid shall not be deemed accepted by the City unless and until the City has completed its execution of the Agreement. Section 3. The final invoice has been submitted, together with four change orders for additional work that was encountered during the course of construction.These orders are: 1. Repairs to PVC Condenser Water Piping. During initial demolition of an existing floor slab, the contractor broke a pipe that carries cooling water for the a/c systems in both BSO and Growth Management. This was an unforeseen condition, as no existing as-built plans exist that would identify the location of the pipe, so no one could have been aware of its existence in that location. 2. Demolish and Re-Construct Partition Between Men's and Women's Rooms As construction proceeded in the early stages, it was discovered that one of the walls that was initially intended to remain in place was in such poor condition that it had to be removed and replaced. 3. Additional Electric Work and Additional Chase Wall During the mid-point in construction, the sheriff asked for additional electric receptacles and an additional ceiling light fixture to be installed. Also, in order to accommodate the installation of the new plumbing fixtures without having to cut into an existing block wall, a second framed "chase" wall was built on the face of the existing block wall. s In October 27, 2000 4. Additional General Requirements for Multi-Phase Since the four restrooms could not all be remodeled at one time (the 2 on the first floor were done first with the second floor 2 being kept available for use), an additional cost was necessary for the contractor to bring his sub-contractors back in twice to perform the work in two phases. The contractor is allowed to collect supervision, management, and overhead and profit on top of these costs. I have reviewed all of the change orders for accuracy, and I agree the charges are both warranted and fair. The total additional change orders amount to $6499.00. In the original Purchase Order, we encumbered $5000.00 on top of the bid amount of $49,800.00 to cover potential change orders. An additional $1499.00 is necessary to pay the contractor in total for work completed. The contractor has performed according to the plans, specifications and contract documents. We are satisfied with the quality of the work and the timeliness of the project. I recommend payment of the additional $1499.00, with funds to be drawn from our contingency accounts. 2
