HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2007-126 Florida fish and wildlife conservation commission for Iguana problems RESOLUTION NO. 2007-126 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH,FLORIDA,URGING"THE FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION AND THE BROWARD COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO CREATE A PROGRAM TO HUMANELY ADDRESS TI IE PROBLEMS CREATED BY WILD IGUANAS IN THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH AND BROWARD COUNTY,FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;FURTHER,PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS,on June 12,2007, Patricia Tyra,a resident of the City of Dania Beach,Florida addressed the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida regarding the problems created by feral iguanas in the Estates of Fort Lauderdale neighborhood and elsewhere in the City and in Broward County; and WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach recognizes that if unchecked, growing feral iguana populations can cause injury to flora and fauna and may create a public health hazard; and WHEREAS,the City Commission is aware that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is responsible for managing fish and wildlife resources for their long-term well-being and for the benefit of the people who live in Florida and that the Broward County Animal Care and Regulation Division is responsible for animal care and control; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida urges the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners to address the problems created by and faced by wild iguanas,by creating a program that humanely provides for their collection and control,including spaying/neutering and releasing,if appropriate. Section 2. That a copy of this Resolution shall be sent to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. That this Resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED on June 26, 2007.
