r A motion was made by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Donly to
excuse Commissioner Hirsch from this meeting. The motion passed unanimously.

approve the minutes of the workshop meeting of May 22 and the regular meeting
of May 27, 1980. The motion passed unanimously.
2. Public Hearings:
a) Mayor Adams opened the public hearing on a •variance request by Howard
Hirsch d/b/a House of Hirsch Antiques, Inc. for the property located at
75 North Federal Highway to allow the construction of a storage addition
to an existing business with insufficient parking requirements. The
Planning and Zoning Board recommended approval of this request.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Donly
to approve this variance request.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:

b) Mayor Adams opened the public hearing on a variance request by Dennis
Campanaro for the property located at 11 SE 14 Street to allow the con-
struction of a duplex on a lot of insufficient width. The Planning and
Zoning Board deferred this item until their next regular meeting of July
1, 1980.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Cook
to defer this item until the Planning and Zonin mendation. g Board submits a recom-

c) Mayor Adams opened the public hearing on a variance request by John Waite
for the property located at 1425 NW 8 Street to allow the addition to a
single family residence within five feet of the side property line. The
Planning and Zoning Board recommended approval of this request.

A motion was made by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Donly to
approve this variance request.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:

d) Mayor Adams opened the public hearino on a variance request by Carl and ??
Maxine Ritter for the property located at 266 SW 8 Street to allow the
construction of a second living unit on an existing single family residence
on a lot of insufficient width.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Cook to
approve this variance request with the stipulations that the removal of an
existing grapefruit tree be replaced by another tree and that the parking
be in the rear of the property off of the alley, as recommended by the
Planning and Zoning Board. "

e) Mayor Adams opened the public hearing on a variance request by Leonard f`
Phillips for the property located at 229 SE 4 Terrace to allow a screen r
pool enclosure with insufficient rear and side yard setbacks. The Planning
and Zoning Board recommended approval of this request.
A motion was made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner Bertinol
to approve this variance request.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:

f) Mayor Adams opened the public hearing on a special exception request by
Michael Brody for the property located at 118 NW Park Street to allow an
enclosed environmental recycling center.
A request was made by Attorney A.J. Ryan in behalf of his client to refer
this item back to the Planning and Zoning Board for changes.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Donly
to refer this item back to the Planning and Zoning Board.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:

g) Mayor Adams opened the public hearing on a special exception request by
Daniel Carvalho for the property located at the SW corner of SW 10 Street
and Federal Highway to allow a multi-family structure in conjunction with
commercial and a variance request for the required side yard setbacks.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Donly
to approve this special exception request as recommended by the Planning
and Zoning Board.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:

A motion was made by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Bertino
to approve this variance request.

3. The report by John Farina, City Engineer, on the Sanitary Sewer Rehab Program
was cancelled until further notice.
4. A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Donly to
give the Dania Chamber of Commerce $3500 from the contingency account out of
the 1979-80 budget and $3500 out of the 1980-91 budget. The motion passed
unanimously.
5. Citizens' comments:
Kurt Ely requested that the Commission give serious-consideration to rescinding
a variance or special exception use granted to the property on North Federal
Highway which is now vacant. The Commission agreed to put this item on the
next agenda.
Carl Zenobia thanked the Commission for the well put in on SE 3 Place but com-
plained that there is still a drainage problem in that area.
Gilda Fisher thanked everyone that helped in the Environmental Day Bike-In
which was held on May 30, 1980.
John Brabham asked that a bench be moved away from the Dania United Methodist
Church sign.
6. City Manager Marant commended Mrs. Mullikin on her achievement of becoming a
Certified Municipal Clerk.
7. Mayor Adams reported that the Boisy Waiters Center dedication was successful
and impressive.
