Roll Call : Present: Mayor: James Adams Vice Mayor: John Bertino Commissioners: Jean Cook Robert Donly City Attorney: Frank Adler City Clerk: Wanda Mullikin City Manager: Richard Marant Police Lt. : Vernon Johnson Building Official : Paul Maxwell Zoning Consultant: Luther Sparkman Absent: Commissioner: Howard Hirsch Police Chief: Rudolf Rigo A motion was made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner Bertino to excuse Commissioner Hirsch from this meeting due to illness. The motion passed unanimously. A motion was made by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Donly to approve the minutes of the December 11, 1979, meeting. The motion passed unanimously. 1. Public Hearings: a) Mayor Adams opened the public hearing on a variance request by Ceasar Favarato for the property located on the Northeast corner of Southwest 9th Street and Phippen Road to allow the construction of a warehouse on a lot of insufficient square footage and with insufficient setbacks and to waive the required platting procedure. Gladys Rolle spoke in favor of this variance. A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Cook to grant this variance as per the plan presented. The motion passed on the following roll call vote: Commissioner Bertino - yes Commissioner Donly - yes Commissioner Cook - yes Mayor Adams - yes b) The City Attorney read the title of an ordinance approving the plat entitled "The Gaddis Plat". A motion was made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner Bertino to approve the ordinance on second reading. The motion passed on the following roll call vote: Commissioner Bertino - yes Commissioner Donly - yes Commissioner Cook - yes Mayor Adams - yes 2. Receipt of bids for repaving and drainage of SW 4 Court and SW 3 Street. A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Donly to close the bidding at this time. The motion passed unanimously. City Manager Marant opened the bids for the repaving and drainage of SW 4 Y ` :L 1, Court and SW 3 Street and read them aloud. Hardrives $11,736.70 Broward Construction Company, Inc. $ 8,697.50 L. C. Menefee $14,777.50 Weekly Asphalt Paving Company, Inc. $10,599. 10 A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Cook to turn the bids over to the City Manager for tabulation and recommendation at the next meeting. The motion passed unanimously. 3. A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Donly to have the City Manager readvertise for bids on the-Houston Park boat dock pro- ject since there were no bids received as of yet. The motion passed unani- mously. 4. No appointment was made to the Civil Service Board or the Police & Fire Pension Board to replace Bob LaCroix. Each Commissioner is to turn in a name of recommendation to the Mayor or City Manager for these appointments by the next meeting. 5. A motion was made by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Bertino to approve the bills as paid for the month of December, 1979. The motion passed unanimously. 6. . motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Donly to acknowledge receipt of the Department of Environmental Regulation's report on File No. 06-21617, Broward County, Fidelco Growth Investors. The motion passed unanimously and City Manager Marant read the report into the minutes. 7. Citizens' Comments: Kurt Ely complimented the City on acting promptly on his previous comments concerning John's Paint and Body Shop. Mr. Ely also complained about traffic congestion at the Short-Stop gas station on the corner of Federal Highway and SE 2nd Street. He also complained about the prostitution in Dania. Commission Comments: The City Manager was instructed to submit each Commissioner's name to the Municipal Lobbying Representative Program. City Manager Marant thanked Mr. Tomaini and the P.S.E. crew for the fine job that was done on resurfacing the tennis courts at Frost Park. He also reported that the Boisy Waiters Center is very near completion. Commissioner Bertino asked for an update on the Venezio case and City Manager Marant reported that we have had some trouble in communicating with Mr. Ryan and Mr. Adler has been trying to contact him. He also stated that he should have a recommendation on the case by the next meeting. Meeting adjourned.
