Lassiter, Sr. Building Official : Paul Maxwell Fire Chief: Gene Jewell Absent: Commissioner: Robert Donly . Commissioner: Howard Hirsch Mayor Bertino informed the Commission that Commissioner Donly and Commissioner Hirsch would not be attending this meeting. 1. Mr. Gene Hill was present to answer questions and to submit a program on Workman 's Compensation by Florida Leaque of Cities. He also stated that the acting Board of Trustees are: Chairmen- Mayor John Bertino Commissioner Beardsly, Clewiston, Florida Commissioner Wilson, Tallahassee, Florida Commissioner Sandra Glen, Almont Springs, Florida Mayor Smoke, Clairmont, Florida He also added that these five people would be responsible for the management of the funds subject to the rules and regulations of the State of Florida and the Workman's Compensation Rating Bureau who puts out all the rates and controls the experience modification, until the permanent Board of Trustees is elected. Mr. Hill also informed the Commission that this program has been approved by the Department of Commerce, because it is self insurance it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Insurance, and that all necessary papers have been filed with the State Department. After further discussion, Mayor Bertino then suggested that this item be placed on the agenda for the next Regular Meeting for formal action, and that Mr. Hill would be contacted. 2. � Pascal & Fields were present to review with the Commission, Site Plans for an addition to be added to their Stirling Commercial Mart. They also inquired as to how they could be annexed into the city and how they could be approved Industrial Zoning. City Attorney Adler informed Pascal & Fields that to be annexed into the City, that they must first write a formal letter to the City Manager requesting to be annexed. The procedure then is to be annexed by Ordinance and that there has to be two readings published in the paper. City Manager Lassiter suggested that Pascal & Fields contact the Zoning Board, and ask for a workshop meeting to discuss the approving of Industrial Zoning, so that they could have an idea what the Zoning Board would recommend to the Commission. The Commission then suggested that if Pascal & Fields can get a formal letter to the City Manager for annexation as soon as possible, then City Attorney Adler would prepare the Ordinance to be published for first reading for the Regular Commission Meeting of Febuary 14th. 3. Mr. Jack Bond who is in contract to purchase a piece of land on Griffin road which has no water or sewer was present to inquire as to the water line being put on Griffin road and how the cost of this line would be distributed. Workshop Meeting -1- January 16, 1978 M Mayor Bertino stated that the City of Dania does plan in the future to run water lines on Griffin road, but he feels that the lines should be adequate to service fires and water circulation for future needs. City Manager Lassiter informed the Commission that he has spoke to Mr. Allen from the Utility Department and with the City Engineers about having an orderly method of laying water and sewer lines in that area. He also stated that they recommend not to consider anything less then a 12 inch line out Stirling road, anything less then an 8 inch line out Griffin road, anything smaller then an 8 inch line out Tigertail road, and that all interconnecting lines between Griffin and Stirling be a minimum of 8 inch lines. Mayor Bertino suggested that Mr. Bond contact the principles ini:the King property and the other property owners about working out an arrangement to have this water line put in. 4. City Manager Lassiter informed the Commission that formal action must be taken by the Commission to request that the County build the sidewalks and bike paths for Dania. He also stated that the county requires bonefide right-aways wherever the city intends to put the bike paths and sidewalks. Mayor Bertino informed the Commission that when this. project was started that he had spoke to Ann Kolb, who had contacted the County Road Department _ and that she reported that the county would pay for all the labor, but that the City of Dania would have to cover the cost of materials. 4 The Commission decided to place this item on the agenda for the next Regular Meeting for official action to be taken for the Dania Beach Boulevard and the loth street area for sidewalks and bike paths. 5. Mayor Bertino informed the Commission that he had spoken to a Mr. Justin con- cerning installing people shelters. He also said that this would be of no cost to the City of Dania as long as Mr. Justin could use these for adver- tisement purposes. City Attorney Adler informed the Commission that these people shelters have to be approved by the Department of Transportation and would have to meet the building code. i Mayor Bertino then suggested that this item be placed on the agenda for the next Regular Meeting for further discussion. Commission Coments Mayor Bertino asked City Attorney Adler about the progress on the unit and acreage law suit. City Attorney Adler reported on the progress that has been made and stated that the case should take a long time yet. City Attorney Adler suggested that the County Department of Transportation check the light located at Griffin road and US 1 to make the light green longer for the people traveling on Griffin road.
