Absent:
Commissioner: Robert Donly .
Commissioner: Howard Hirsch
Mayor Bertino informed the Commission that Commissioner Donly and Commissioner
Hirsch would not be attending this meeting.
1. Mr. Gene Hill was present to answer questions and to submit a program on
Workman 's Compensation by Florida Leaque of Cities. He also stated that
the acting Board of Trustees are:
Chairmen- Mayor John Bertino
Commissioner Beardsly, Clewiston, Florida
Commissioner Wilson, Tallahassee, Florida
Commissioner Sandra Glen, Almont Springs, Florida
Mayor Smoke, Clairmont, Florida
He also added that these five people would be responsible for the management
of the funds subject to the rules and regulations of the State of Florida
and the Workman's Compensation Rating Bureau who puts out all the rates and
controls the experience modification, until the permanent Board of Trustees
is elected.
Mr. Hill also informed the Commission that this program has been approved by
the Department of Commerce, because it is self insurance it does not fall
under the jurisdiction of the Department of Insurance, and that all necessary
papers have been filed with the State Department.
After further discussion, Mayor Bertino then suggested that this item be
placed on the agenda for the next Regular Meeting for formal action, and
that Mr. Hill would be contacted.
2. Pascal & Fields were present to review with the Commission, Site Plans for
an addition to be added to their Stirling Commercial Mart. They also inquired
as to how they could be annexed into the city and how they could be approved
Industrial Zoning.
City Attorney Adler informed Pascal & Fields that to be annexed into the City,
that they must first write a formal letter to the City Manager requesting
to be annexed. The procedure then is to be annexed by Ordinance and that
there has to be two readings published in the paper.
City Manager Lassiter suggested that Pascal & Fields contact the Zoning
Board, and ask for a workshop meeting to discuss the approving of Industrial
Zoning, so that they could have an idea what the Zoning Board would recommend
to the Commission.
The Commission then suggested that if Pascal & Fields can get a formal letter
to the City Manager for annexation as soon as possible, then City Attorney
Adler would prepare the Ordinance to be published for first reading for the
Regular Commission Meeting of Febuary 14th.
3. Mr. Jack Bond who is in contract to purchase a piece of land on Griffin road
which has no water or sewer was present to inquire as to the water line being
put on Griffin road and how the cost of this line would be distributed.
Workshop Meeting -1- January 16, 1978
M
Mayor Bertino stated that the City of Dania does plan in the future to run
water lines on Griffin road, but he feels that the lines should be adequate
to service fires and water circulation for future needs.
City Manager Lassiter informed the Commission that he has spoke to Mr. Allen
from the Utility Department and with the City Engineers about having an orderly
method of laying water and sewer lines in that area. He also stated that they
recommend not to consider anything less then a 12 inch line out Stirling road,
anything less then an 8 inch line out Griffin road, anything smaller then an
8 inch line out Tigertail road, and that all interconnecting lines between
Griffin and Stirling be a minimum of 8 inch lines.
Mayor Bertino suggested that Mr. Bond contact the principles ini:the King
property and the other property owners about working out an arrangement
to have this water line put in.
4. City Manager Lassiter informed the Commission that formal action must be
taken by the Commission to request that the County build the sidewalks and
bike paths for Dania. He also stated that the county requires bonefide
right-aways wherever the city intends to put the bike paths and sidewalks.
Mayor Bertino informed the Commission that when this. project was started
that he had spoke to Ann Kolb, who had contacted the County Road Department
_ and that she reported that the county would pay for all the labor, but that
the City of Dania would have to cover the cost of materials.
4 The Commission decided to place this item on the agenda for the next Regular
Meeting for official action to be taken for the Dania Beach Boulevard and
the loth street area for sidewalks and bike paths.
5. Mayor Bertino informed the Commission that he had spoken to a Mr. Justin con-
cerning installing people shelters. He also said that this would be of no
cost to the City of Dania as long as Mr. Justin could use these for adver-
tisement purposes.
City Attorney Adler informed the Commission that these people shelters have to
be approved by the Department of Transportation and would have to meet the
building code.
i
Mayor Bertino then suggested that this item be placed on the agenda for the
next Regular Meeting for further discussion.
Commission Coments
Mayor Bertino asked City Attorney Adler about the progress on the unit and
acreage law suit.
City Attorney Adler reported on the progress that has been made and stated
that the case should take a long time yet.
City Attorney Adler suggested that the County Department of Transportation
check the light located at Griffin road and US 1 to make the light green
longer for the people traveling on Griffin road.
