MINUTES
WORKSHOP MEETING
DANIA CITY COMMISSION
JANUARY 3, 1978
Present:
Mayor: John Bertino
Vice Mayor: James Adams
Commissioners: Robert Donly
Howard Hirsch
City Manager: John S. Lassiter, Sr.
City Attorney: Frank Adler
Police Chief: Rudy Rigo
Fire Chief: Gene Jewell
Absent:
Commissioner: Jean Cook
Commissioner Cook was absent due to her being out of town for illness in
the family.
1. Mr. Joe Roth, representing Roack Corporation was present to submit to
City Manager Lassiter banking references and a Confidential Financial
Statement for him to review concerning the background of their private
company.
Mr. Solomon from the Environmental Quality Control informed the Commission
on requirements of construction of land that meet the Environmental Regula-
tions.
City Attorney Adler suggested that he check back on the title of the beach
property involved to see if there are any Deed Restrictions.
Mayor Bertino suggested that the Roack Corporation review the requirements
of the Environmental Quality Control , while City Attorney Adler examines
any Deed Restrictions. Mayor Bertino then stated that the Commission
would contact the Roack corporation for another meeting next week.
2. City Attorney Adler reported that he is in the process of working out
a settlement between Mr. Moschella and the City of Dania that will be
satisfactory to both. He also stated that there would be a hearing
coming up soon.
3. Police Chief Rigo gave a summary of three proposals for a general idea
what the cost would be to the City to hire a legal advisor. He read
as follows:
1. Howard Levine- $6,000.00 yearly; plus $60.00 an hour to go to court;
he would be on call 24 hours a day and attend meetings.
2. Blaise Picchi- $5,000.00 yearly; plus $60.00 an hour to go to court.
3. Jeff Smith- $100.00 a month; plus $70 an hour to go to court; plus
he keeps track of the time spent on the phone, which he charges $30.00
per hour.
The Commission then agreed to place this item on the agenda for Tuesday
January 10, 1978 to decide on what action to take on. this item.
4. Mayor Bertino informed the Commission that a decision had to be made about
carpeting and paneling the executive offices of the new City Hall.
After further discussion the Commission decided to instruct Assistant
City Manager Marant to contact Jeff Grose to have the executive offices
carpeted and paneled.
City Manager Lassiter suggested to the Commission that it would be better
to wait until everything is finished before moving into the new City Hall .
The Commission agreed.
A motion was made by Commissioner Hirsch, seconded by Commissioner Adams
to ajourn this meeting. The motion was carried unanimously.
