A motion was made by Commissioner Hirsch, seconded by Commissioner
Donly to move Item #2 up Item #1 on the agenda. The motion was
carried by all.
1 , A motion was made by Commissioner Adams, seconded by Commissioner
Donly to adopt a resolution appointing Mr. Paul Maxwell to the position
of Building Official, setting the salary at $18,500 per year.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:
Commissioner Adams - Yes Commissioner Hirsch - Yes
Commissioner Cook - Yes Mayor Bertino - Yes
Commissioner Donly - Yes
Mayor Bertino gave a synopsis on Mr. Maxwell's background and stated
quite confidently that he felt Mr. Maxwell was very qualifed for the
position and feels that Mr. Maxwell will do a good job in the City
of Dania.
2. City Manager Lassiter informed the people present at the meeting of
the proposed millage increase. The rate increase will be 1.5 mill
making the total millage rate 6 .417,
Mayor Bertino declared the Public Hearing opened on the discussion
of the millage increase and the proposed 1977/78 Budget (General
Fund) and invited the audience to step forward and offer their
viewpoints .
After many citizens spoke to the Commissioners regarding the
budget and millage increase the Mayor declared the Public Hearing
closed.
A motion was then made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner
Adams to adopt on First Reading the General Fund Budget for 1977/78
in its present form.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:

Bertino announced that the 2nd Public Hearing on adopting
the ] `)77-78 Budget and setting the millage would be September 12,
1977 at 8:f0 P.M.

A motion was made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner
Hirsch to set the millage for the General Fund Budget of 1977/78
at G .417 mills . a

The motion passed on the following roll call vote:
Commissioner Adams - Yes Commissioner Hirsch - Yes
Commissioner Cook - Yes Mayor Bertino - No
Commissioner Donly - Yes y
3. A motion was made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner
` Cook to declare as an Emergency Item the signing of the Department
of Community Affairs Grant Application.
The motion was carried with Commissioner Hirsch voting no.
Ms. Diane Maile representing the Social Service Department,
a: spoke to the Commissioners regarding this application.
A motion was then made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by
Commissioner Cook to authorize Mayor Bertino to sign this
Grant Application.
The motion was carried by all.
