HomeMy WebLinkAbout30651 - MINUTES - City Commission AWOL MINUTES SPECIAL MEETING DANIA CITY COMMISSION APRIL 20 , 1977 Roll Call: Present: Mayor: John Bertino Vice Mayor: James Adams Commissioners : Jean Cook Robert Donly Howard Hirsch City Manager: John S . Lassiter, Sr. City Attorney: Frank Adler City Clerk: Wanda Mullikin 1 . Mr. Walter Keller, Transportation Engineer for Florida D.O.T. , expressed briefly plans for trafficways and seven alternatives . A motion was made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner Cook to have the City of Dania immediately notify the Planning Council that the Commission wishes to have Southeast 7th Street removed fran the 1990 traffic plan. The motion was carried by all. A motion was made by Commissiorer Hirsch, seconded by Commissioner Adams to remove proposition 3 and the one-way paring because of the tax dollars that would be lost and also disruption of the residents of the city and to have a special meeting to further discuss this alternative. The motion passed with Commissioner Donly voting no. 2. Proposals on Workmen 's Compensation policies were presented by Mr . Odis Carlan of Fred S . James Co. and Mr. Frank Porto of Davie Insurance Co. After discussion a motion was made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner Adams to accept the bid from Davie Insurance Co. for Workmen 's Compensation for a 12 month period beginning April 22, 1977 through April 22, 1978. The motion passed on the following roll call vote: Commissioner Adams - Yes Commissioner Hirsch - No Commissioner Cook - No Mayor Bertino - Yes Commissioner Donly - Yes 3 . City Attorney Frank Adler informed the commission that it would be illegal to give city property away in order to use as a grave site for Officer Thomas . 7 Emergency Item Mayor Bertino stated that he thought the report from the Airport Liason Committee was important and should be added to this agenda . Commissioner Hirsch made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Donly to include this as an emergency item on the agenda . The motion passed unanimously. Ruby Madden, Chairman of the Liason Committee , read a letter from the Airport Liason Committee that was drafted to be sent to Mr. Langhorn Bond, Administrator of Federal Aviation Administrati-on. The letter states objection to the layout of the new terminal complex proposed at the k'ort Lauderdale Hollywood Airport and also states objection to the fact that the engineering company that is doing the design of the complex is also doing the environmental study for the county. A motion was made by Commissioner Hirsch, seconded by Commissioner Adams to have the City Attorney review this letter and present his opinion at a special meeting at 3:45 p.m. April 25. The motion was carried unanimously. Comments A workshop meeting is scheduled for May 12, 1977 at 8:00 P.M. to discuss certain zoning in ordinance #100. A special meeting is scheduled for May 3, 1977 at 5:00 P.M. to open bids that will be received pertaining to gates for D,nia Beach Parking.
