Consideration and possible action on an ordinance for first reading rezoning land within the City lying north of the j Dania Cut Off Canal. The Mayor announced that the second reading of this ordinance will be on January 19th at 8 :00 p.m. The only major changes that were made were south of N.W. loth Street, west of FECRR and north of Dania Cut Off Canal and east of Trails End Trailer Park. At present there is a duplex buffer zone inserted and then the commercial area east of the buffer zone, so that the duplex area would abutt the single family homes and commercial would abutt the highway. A motion was made by Commissioner Adler, seconded by Vice Mayor Bertino to pass the ordinance on first reading approving the rezoning for the section north of the Cut-Off Canal. The motion passed. Mayor Duncanson - yes Commissioner Donly - yes Vice Mayor Bertino - yes Commissioner Kay - yes Commissioner Adler - yes 2 . Discussion was held concerning the beach parking suit between the City and Mr. Moulton and Mr. Schudel. The Mayor suggested that the City reach some kind of an agreement between the leasees and the City so that the City could have the parking back on the beach again. A motion was made by Commissioner Adler, seconded by Commissioner Kay to settle with the leasees at a sum of $27 ,500 and that the details of implementing the settlement be worked out by the City Attorney and City Manager. The motion passed on a 4-1 vote. Vice Mayor Bertino voted no. 3 . There was discussion on the boundaries of annexation for referendum item on upcoming election ballot. The County will do the survey work for the annexation. This has to be done before the Commission can vote on the ordinance. Vice Mayor Bertino made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Adler to have the boundaries go all the way out to State Road 7. City Manager Lassiter pointed out that there was not enough time for the survey to be furnished by the deadline to annex out to State Road 7 . A roll call vote was taken and the motion failed. Mayor Duncanson - no Commissioner Donly - no Vice Mayor Bertino - yes Commissioner Kay - yes Commissioner Adler - no A motion was made by Commissioner Donly, seconded by Commissioner Adler to instruct the City Manager to go ahead with preparation of the proposal to annex the area east of the Seaboard Railroad tracks and prepare all the details for the Commission to look at prior to the enactment of the ordinance by the January llth meeting. A roll call vote was taken and the motion passed. Discussion was held on charter changes for referendum item on upcoming election ballot. A motion was made by Commissioner Donly to create two ballot items. One item to be the new charter with the provision that the hiring and firing of department heads remain as it is in the old charter, and the second item be whether or not the power should be transferred to the City Manager in the Charter. The motion died for lack of a second. A motion was made by Commissioner Adler, seconded by Commissioner Donly that the Commission hire and fire depart- ment heads. The motion passed on a 4-1 vote.
