WORKSHOP MEETING
DANIA CITY COMMISSION
OCTOBER 14, 1975
1. Roll Call: Present:
Mayor: Robert H. Duncanson
Vice Mayor: John Bertino
Commissioners: John Kay
Robert Donly.
City Manager: John Kooser
Sanitation Contractor: Thomas Sette
2, This workshop meeting was called for discussion of the Chamber
of Commerce annual booklet. Mr. Kooser gave' a report on the
meeting with Mr. Epling and Mr. Burdett, who were both present.
A tengthly discussion followed centered around the ways in
which this booklet could bring industrial people into Dania
from all over the country by getting the message out that Dania
has resources that people would be interested in.
The most important suggestion was that of drawing up a cover letter,
® separate from the booklet, designed to attract various industrial
concerns to Locate in Dania. This was generally agreed upon by
members of the commission,
Mrs. Eleanor Tubbs, who is responsible for putting the booklet
together, explained that the booklet is basically the same as
® last year. Commissioner Bertino and Commissioner Kay would like
to see some revisions made and pointed these out.. to the, commission.
The problem is the time involved to make these Changes.
It was generally agreed that the City would pay for the map of the
City, cover letter, mailing and postage but would first want a
�► meeting with all the commissioners to go through the book and come
up with copy changes. This meeting is set for Monday, October 20,
at 4:00 at the Chamber of Commerce.
3. The routing of AlA extension was the next item up for discussion.
It was pointed out that The Department of Transportation is having
® a Public Hearing as to the alignment of AIA and wants to.know what
the people's thoughts are.
AlA extension is needed for Industrial area north of the' City, .it
is not an expressway or a speedway, but rather a major artery -from
the Dade County line to Dania Beach Boulevard and in the future
® there will be a need for 20 lanes of traffic between Dania and Ft.
Lauderdale,
Out of 5 alternatives, the most likely seem to be a combination of
l and 4 being east of the trailer park swinging back to the canal, ,_
The original purpose of AlA was to be a relief to traffic on USI
9 and not a super speedway. Feedback 'frooi the Public Hearing may
provide some insight as to how citizens feel about where the routing
should go.
