WORKSHOP MEETING
DANIA CITY COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 8, 1975
1. Present:
Mayor: Robert Duncanson
Vice Mayor: John Bettina
® Commissioners: John Kay
Robert Donly
City Manager: John Kooser
Sanitation Contractor: Thomas Sette
2. The Garbage Contract between the City and West Shore Sanitation
was the first item to be discussed. City Manager Kooser asked
for 30 days to go over this in detail. The problem areas seem
to be in pickup and operation. Also questioned are the legalities
of the ordinance which may entail renegotation. Mr. Kooser intends
to take this up with City Attorney Milbery and come back with
alternative, answers and recommendations.
Mayor Duncanson praised Mr. Sette, Sanitation contractor, on the
excellent job he is doing. Mr. Sette plans to take Mr. Kooser on
a tour of the city so that he can become familiar with areas that
need looking into. Trash has become a problem in that a main
® disposal point is needed and alleyways need clearing so that Mr.
Setre's truck can get through.
3. Water and Sewer Rates were discussed in regard to billing. Mitch
Lipshultz from Pirates Inn asked if there was some way in which
Hotels and Motels could pay these rates according to business lows
and highs. Mayor Duncanson explained that the City's system had
to be maintained whether businesses used these facilities to full
capacity during the season or partial capacity during the slow
season. Mr. Lipshultz said he wasn't asking for preferential
treatment but rather some method of billing that wouldn't present
a hardship by paying the bill when a limited amount of money was
coming in. The Mayor pointed out that Dania has the lowest rates
as compared with surrounding communities and see how they are handling
their situation.
4. Changing regular meeting days to the first and third Tuesday in the
month rather than Monday was discussed. Everyone at the meeting
approved of this idea and Mr. Kooser was asked to check with members
• of the commission not present to see if it was agreeable to them.
Mr. Kooser asked for a workshop meeting on September 22, to discuss
labor contracts and water and sewer billing. He also asked the
commission to let him know if there were any workshop meetings needed
prior to the workshop meeting on the 22nd. f, ) fin} d-
