Present: PlaI Robert Duncanson Vice Mayor: John Bertino Commissioners: Robert DonLy John Kay } City Manager: Woodward Hampton Building Inspector: Thomas Littrell S: ?_ The Commission reviewed the zoning map that was recently approved. Vice Mayor Bertino suggested that a section of the City east of Fifth Avenue between Dania it Beach Boulevard and Sheridan Street be set aside for high quality homes. Building ® Inspector Littrell would like to see the present Zoning Ordinance amended so that y' the procedure for administering building permits is facilitated, including the rules for the holding of Public Hearings regarding building requests. Commissioner Donly asked that Mr. Littrell furnish the Commission with a list of the recommendations that he would like to see in the new Ordinance. Mr. Littrell said he did not know where to start, and the only way he could foresee of accomplishing everything would ® be to rewrite the Ordinance, which would take months to do. Mayor Duncanson felt that the City should not discourage building, and suggested putting a moratorium on, and then modify the land use plan, allowing permits to be issued if the property is currently zoned according to what the proposed zoning will be, and if it is not the builder will have to wait until the land use plan is modified. Mr. Littrell stated chat if he could substitute a new set of definitions he could work with the Ordinance until it can be completely amended. After much discussion, the Mayor suggested this schedule: redo the future zoning map; revise Chapter 33 so that Mr. Littrell can work with it; redo Chapter 33; rezone the property. This met with the Commission's approval , and so Mr. Littrell will go ahead and work on a new set of definitions. 3. Ih'c Commission discussed Houston Park in regard to the recent grant that the City ® received for the improvement of its boating facilities, and whether the City should de.%,elop some revenue creating projects there. Several suggestions were made, among them being a Recreation Vehicle parking area, a boat storage area with a bait and t-.c:cle shop, a camping area , or a picnic area. The Commission decided to advertise for suggestions for revenue producing proposals for this area, and instructed City %ana;;er Hampton to put this on the next regular meeting agenda. Commissioner Kay isked if the Commission could also discuss at that time the question of increasing the fee for boat launching. The Commission discussed the installation of timing gates at the beach parking lot. Tt was brought to the Commission's attention that the parking fee is being abused. `•+a vs were discussed on how to separate pier customers from beach parkers. They also • discussed the beach rules pertaining to food and beverages. Vice Mayor Bertino and Commissioner Donly suggested rewording the rules so that people who litter the beach, (,r .Ire abusive and disorderly will be fined, rather than having it illegel to picnic tlio beach. Mayor Duncanson suggested setting aside areas for food and drink. She knows a man who is interested in investing it the building. The Commission told Mrs. ® Silvernale that the man would have to talk with the City Manager. Mr. Hampton was directed to advertise the availability of the Ocean Protein Building in several newspapers, 6.
