2. Gd Lundquist, Councilman of Pembroke Pines discussed at length the
newspaper ,alvage program that Pembroke Pines has instituted. It
was pointed out that if successfully operated that there are monies
to be made from this salvage, in addition to the saving of our
timber resources used in the manufacturing of paper. Each Commiss-
ioner agreed that the program had positive benefits, but that they
would like for the City Manager to study the problems involved and
report back to the Commission.
3. The City Manager recommended that the Commission authorize a four-
ten hour day work schedule in an effort to save on electricity.
After much discussion, Commission Adler made a motion to approve
this schedule, Commissioner Duncanson seconded, but the motion
failed by a 3-2 vote. Commissioners Jackson and Kay and Mayor Kay
voted no. The three voting no pointed out that in their opinion
there would be no saving of energy.
4. The Commission discussed the practical result of restricting neon
lights and display lights at night in the City. The Commission
adoptod a proclamation asking the businesses in the City to turn
their neon lights and display lights out at their closing hour,
which could be as late as 2:00 A.M. for certain businesses. The
Commission indicated that if the energy crisis continues and
that businesses do not cooperate, that an ordinance will be adopted
at a lacer date to regulate this use. The Commission authorized
the City Manager to have Florida Power 8 Light turn off every other
lamp on the whiteway lighting for Dania Beach Boulevard and U.S. I .
5. The City Manager was asked to determine the reason why Mr. Kerley,
Architect, was not present to discuss the Civic Center, and to
schedule a later meeting with him to discuss finalization of an
agreement if his terms and schedule of design are satisfactory
to the City.
6. 1ho City Commission asked the Manager to determine if a "No Left
Turn" sign could be placed at Eller Road and Federal Highway to
prevent trucks from turning south at this point. The City Manager
