I? 4. on a motion by Commissioner Jackson, seconded by Commissioner Kay, the
Commission approved the minutes from the meeting of August 6th.
' 5. Reading of the Planning and Zoning Board's minutes from their meeting
.r., of Auqu;t 141h.
Item b'3. The Board recommended that the City Commission approve the
variance permit to Bernedine Barry which would permit her to construct
a swimming pool in her backyard at 313 N.E. 5th Court, with a setback
of 14' from the water's edge of the canal instead of 25' as required by
upplinjble City ordinance.
On a motion by Commissioner Jackson, seconded by Commissioner Adler, the
Commission approved the variance unanimously.
Item N4. The Board recommended that the City Commission approve the
variance permit to Mr. & Mrs. James R. Southern which would permit them
to construct a swimming pool in their backyard at 1457 N.W. 9th Street
with a setback of 22' from the water' s edge of the canal to the screen
onclosure instead of the 251 as required by applicable City ordinance.
On a motion by Commissioner Adler, seconded by Commissioner Kay, the
Commission approved unanimously the variance of Mr. & Mrs. Southern.
Item #5. On a motion made, sustained and passed unanimously, the Commission
pproverl the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Board to authorize
the City Attorney to draw an amendment to the zoning ordinance to establish
i 1 151 rear setback for pools on property having a canal at the rear.
Item MG. On a motion that was sustained and passed unanimously, the
Commission approved the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Board
and authorized a public hearing before the Board, to hear this request
to open and operate a mechanical garage at this site in B-2 zoning on
Tuesday, September Ilth, at 7:35 p.m.
G. P!an Hutchinson, Director for the Areawide Model Project on Aging, Community
Gcrvic,, Council of Broward County appeared before the Commission and
explained the program. The Commission authorized her request for $792.00

On ❑ motion by Commissioner Jackson, seconded by Commissioner Kay, the
Commission approved on third reading, the ordinance rezoning from M-1 to
R.- all of Blncks 3, 8, 15 nd 20 Town of Dania excepting 1001 wide strips
„f land north and south ofj&f Dania Beach Blvd. and Tigertail Road
(f!w it St) which shall be rezoned from M-1 to B-2. The motion passed

S.L. 3rd Avenue and S.E. 5th Avenue which shall be rezoned to B-2 zoning
and also excepting a 125' by 125' plot of land at the southwest corner of
[asP Dania Beach Boulevard and S.E. 51-h Avenue presently zoned C-I , based !?
® on the, site plan presented and the representation by -the developer that
this site plan would be followed and that the developer would enter into r
,in agreement with the City to keep open the drainage ditch that is adjacent
to the property. There were three ayes. Commissioner Duncanson voted No. ;

CITY MANAGER'S REPORT y
® 1 . The City Attorney reported on the problem of closing Jack $ Jay's Bar.
I_r,sentially the report stated that the acts observed do not constitute '
J violation of the law, which would authorize the City to make an arrest. r
Ile pointed out that the alternate course of action for closing it as a
public nuisance would be the responsibility of the State Attorney's Office.
® 2. The need for a tree removal ordinance was discussed and samples were turned
over to the City Attorney by Vice Mayor Duncanson, for the City Attorney
to review in preparing the ordinance for the City of Dania.

3. The Northwest Park Site development Is to be placed on the September 4th ;a
• agenda for action.
4. The speed of trains in the City and the risk of slower speeds inconven-
iencing citizens at crossings was discussed. A representative from the
railroad stated that he would set up a meeting between the railroad
representatives and the City Manager to discuss a possible way of getting
S the crossing gales installed at N.E. IOth Street.
5. The City Attorney suggested that the use of the siding in the residential
area south of Stirling Road be discussed at the above mentioned meeting also.
The City Attorney was of the opinion that we could not restrict the railroad
from using this siding completely. The City Attorney did feel that we have
• the right to regulate any unloading of products If such products could be
dangerous to the safety of the residents nearby.
6. On the recommendation of the City Manager, Commissioner Adler made a motion
to approve the request of the Security Designs to construct models(and
offices) for pre-cut homes at 1405 North Federal Highway. This permit
® shall be good for one year subject to renewal . Commissioner Kay seconded.
The motion passed unanimously.
7. the City Attorney will have a report on the condemnation of the Taft
property on S.W. 9th Street at the next meeting.
• 8. The City Manager and Commissioner Adler are to attend the Area Planning
Board workshop hearing at the Hollywood City Commission Chambers on Friday,
September 7th at 2:00 P.M.
9. On a motion by Commissioner Adler, seconded by Commissioner Kay, the
Commission authorized the advertisement of bids for the shelters at the
hlestside shuffleboard courts. The motion passed unanimously.
10. Vice Mayor Duncanson questioned the school crossing guards at the Dania
Elementary School crossing on S.E. 2nd Avenue. Commissioner Jackson stated
that the Chief of Police has two guards budgeted and he has the authority
to use these men where he thinks best. Commissioner Adler suggested that
the Chief get in touch with Dan DeMauro at the School Board and work
through them for what is best for the safety of the children.
II . A citizen from the audience requested that the City look into a faster
method of removing junked or abandoned cars from the City.
12. Bill Davison mentioned that the door to the boy's bathroom at Frost Park
was in need of repair and that he had received no action on this matter.
He admitted when asked by the Manager concerning this, that he had not
brought it to the attention of the City Manager.

,fi I Vice Mayor Duncanson asked about the Fire and Police uniform bids.
4'?a The Manager explained that this information was furnished to them
under the Central Purchasing agreement the City has with Fort Lauderdale,
vt IielIywood and the County.
14. Vice Mayor Duncanson requested that the County Commission be asked to
have the airport staff check with the City of Dania wl�en they are
intending to do any work in the City.
