Third reading on the adoption of an occupational license ordinance. There were no objections. Commissioner Kelly made a motion that the ordinance be passed on third reading. Commissioner Kay seconded. There were three ayes. 5. Commissioner Kay made a motion to pass on three readings the ® amendment to the M-1 Ordinance to prohibit residential use in a M-1 zoned area. Commissioner Kelly seconded. There were three ayes. 6. Comments on crime report for January-June, 1972. Discussion ensued on the crime picture in the City of Dania. There was extensive discussion and exchanging of ideas between the various Commissioners. ® The Commissioners asked that an all-out effort be made to reduce the crime rate, and various suggestions were offered. Mayor Jackson suggested the Block System of citizen participation and cooperation. Commissioner Kay suggested a closer observance of the procedures for the flow of information through the police desk. Commissioner Kelly made a motion that the City Manager proceed to obtain some professional it type of monitoring and recording equipment, to be able to monitor and record all incoming telephone calls to the Police Department. Commissioner Kay seconded. There were three ayes. The Mayor said he would like to see the Police and Fire Department get together and work out a better coordinated call system. The City Manager requested that a new direct hot line telephone be installed specifically to receive information from citizens on suspicious activities in the Community. These calls to be handled in a different manner than normally requested from the community. Commissioner Kay made a motion to authorize the City Manager to follow through to establish the block system and to install the 1� hot line telephone. Commissioner Kelly seconded. There were three ayes. 7. Commissioner Kay made a motion to remove all four straw ballots from the election. Commissioner Kelly seconded. There were three ayes. 8. Notice was received by the City that the County Zoning Board would ® be considering a request to change the zoning on a piece of property from agriculture to M-1 Industrial. This property borders the City of Dania on the West boundary at West Beach Boulevard. Commissioner Kelly made a motion to authorize the City Attorney to draw a resolution opposing this zoning change to be forwarded to the County Planning Department. 1 illiam E. J son-Mayor E. R.
