® 2. Pledge of allegiance to the flag.
3. Judge Black gave a commendation for the American Legion Marshall
La Bree Post No. 304, to the Police Department and citations to
the following individual policemen for their service to the Post
on March 21:

S. Approval of Minutes. Commissioner Waiters made a motion to accept
the minutes of March 152 1971. Commissioner Kay seconded. There
were five ayes.
6. Bids. Commissioner Salvino made a motion that the bids for razing
and removal of a building in Hanson-Nelson Subdivision be closed.
Commissioner Waiters seconded. There were five ayes. Commissioner
Kay made a motion that the bids be opened. Commissioner Waiters
• seconded. There were five ayes. The bids read as follows:
For the house at 709 S. W. 12th Avenue Big Chief bid $474.00
Pete Stroking bid $425.00
For the house at 302 N. W. 5th Avenue Big Chief bid $944.00
Pete Stroking bid $1,225.00
Commissioner Salvino made a motion to turn the bids over to the City
Manager for his tabulation and recommendation. Commissioner Kay
seconded. There were five ayes.
7. Public Hearing - Mannheim - 8:15 P. M. Petition of Ilse Mannheim
of 33 S. W. 7th Street for a variance permit to construct an addition
to her duplex. Commissioner Kay made a motion to permit this variance.
Commissioner Salvino seconded. There were five ayes.
S. Marron. Commissioner Kay made a motion that the Commission tentatively
approve Mr. Marrone's site plan and have it platted and send it back
to the Planning and Zoning Board for the small changes and their
approval. Commissioner Salvino seconded. There were five ayes.

9. Palm Beach Foods, Inc. Commissioner Kay made a motion to approve
this beer license retail on first reading. Commissioner Salvino
seconded. There were five ayes.
10. bfama Mials Inc. Request for a liquor license transfer from
Johnny s Tropical Steak House to Mama Mia's, Inc. Commissioner
Salvino made a motion to permit this request. Commissioner Kay
seconded. There were five ayes.

11. Public Hearing - Benkelman - 8 :30 P. M. Commissioner Kay made a
motion to pass on three readings Joseph Benkelman's request to
rezone from R-3 to B-2, Lots 9 & 10 in Magnolia Park Subdivision,
f. address being 20 & 24 West Dixie Highway. Commissioner Salvino
seconded. There were five ayes. Mr. Dubuski from the audience
objected and the reason being that he didn't understand what could
be built in the zoning that Mr. Benkelman was applying for, and
that only high class businesses would be allowed at these addresses.
12. Fire Fighters. The Dania Association of Fire Fighters has asked
that they be recognized as the exclusive and sole bargaining agent
for the personnel of the Dania Fire Department. This was tabled =r
until the City Attorney can check into the matter. Why

13. Pavilion. Commissioner Kay made a motion that the City Manager
telephone for prices to remove the pavilion roof at the beach ' 4
under emergency, since it is in a dangerous structural state. a'•`'

14. Public Hearing - Lowe - 8 :40 P. M. Commissioner Kay made a motion "
to pass on all three readings Anne Marie Lowe's petition to rezone = <.:
from R-3 to B-2, Lots 7 & 8 of Magnolia Park Subdivision, address
being 28 & 32 West Dixie Highway. Commissioner Salvino seconded. y {

15. Alcee L. Hastings. Mr. Hastings requests consideration of a sewer
hookup or certain property of the Northwest area. Commissioner Kay
made a motion to table this matter. Commissioner Salvino seconded.

16. Fees for Cou_r_t_Appearances. Commissioner Kay made a motion to
approve the ive dollar :tee to be paid to off duty law enforcement
officers for court appearances in our City. Commissioner Salvino
seconded. There were five ayes.
17. Trail's End Trailer Park. Commissioner Salvino made a motion to tie
in Trail's End Trailer Park to our sewer system for an assessment
of $3,645.00. Commissioner Kay seconded. There were five ayes.
The City Attorney will draw up a resolution bringing the area into the
sewer district and levying the assessment.
18. Trail's End Trailer Park. Commission Salvino made a motion to
settle for a total assessment of $3,500.00 for streets and sidewalks
against Mr. Ackel's property. Commissioner Kay seconded. There
were five ayes. The City Attorney will draw up a resolution to
agree to the settlement of the assessment charges as drawn up by the
City Manager.
19. Mechanic Classification. Commissioner Kay made a motion to accept the
City Manager's recommendation that Mechanic 1 be in pay classification
25, at a beginning salary of $2.73 per hour, and Mechanic 2 be in pay
classification 28, giving the present mechanic $3.67 per hour.
Commissioner Salvino seconded. There were five ayes.
20. Hydrants. Commissioner Kay made a motion to award the bids for fire
hydrants, valves and fittings to M & H Valve and Fittings, their bid
being $189.50 per hydrant - $74. 95 per gate valves and fittings.
Commissioner Salvino seconded. There were five ayes.
21. Police Car. Commissioner Kay made a motion to accept the City
Manager's recommendation to award the bid for one-1971 police car
to Munroe Zeder in the amount of $3,253.27. Commissioner Salvino
seconded. There were five ayes.
22. Picku Truck. Commissioner Kay made a motion to award the bid for
one 3 4 ton Chevrolet pickup truck to Slaton Motors in the amount
of $2,632.90, as the City Manager recommended. Commissioner Waiters
seconded. There were five ayes.

23. Trash Truck. Commissioner Salvino made a motion to accept the
City Manager's recommendation to award the bid for a trash truck,
with side lift gate, in the amount of $5,649.90 to Slaton Motors to
be paid for out of this budget. Commissioner Waiters seconded.
There were five ayes.
24. Garbage Pickup Rates. After meeting with representives of the Motel-
Hotel Industry, the City Manager recommended that we serve these
businesses on the following basis : For strictly motel rooms - 75�
per room, per motel, for efficiencies in this category - $1.00 per
efficiency, per motel. The City Manager was authorized to furnish
the above service and to service like constituted businesses. The
City Attorney will draw an ordinance or agreement to implement the
above recommendation. Commissioner Ray made a motion to accept the
City Manager's recommendation. Commissioner Salvino seconded. There
® were five ayes.
25. Pay adjustments. Commissioner Kay made a motion to accept the pay
adjustment of a two-step raise for the Police Department as recommended
by the City Manager. This two-step increase to be paid to each
policeman when he graduates from the Academy. Commissioner Waiters

Raises for the Fire Department were discussed and tabled. It was
decided to hold a special meeting on Wednesday, April 7, at 5 :00 P. M.
Commissioner Kay made a motion that we adopt the City Manager's plan
® as proposed for the Public Works Department. That we bring the men
up two steps and put them on a forty hour week rather than
the forty four hours that they are now working. Commissioner Salvino
seconded. There were five ayes.
26. Delinquent water bills. Commissioner Kay made a motion to change the
policy in regard to delinquent water and sewer bills from the present
60 day provision to 30 days from time of billing. Commissioner
Salvino seconded. There were five ayes.
27. Nelson Subdivision. Commissioner Kay made a motion that we draw
up a resolution to pay H & H Crane $1,948.75 to install a 6" water
line from Phippen Road to tie-in with the Nelson Subdivision.
Commissioner Salvino seconded. There were five ayes.
28. Sewer & Water Operators. Commissioner Kay made a motion to accept
the City Manager's recommendation that we retain Trainee Operators
in pay range 29, Class C Operators in 31, and establish a pay range
32 for Class B Operators and pay range 33 for Class A Operators.
29. Public Trash Containers. Mr. Baker appeared and presented to the
Commission an offer to furnish trash containers for our public use
at no cost to the City. It was agreed that advertising wording
would be submitted to the City for approval. The Commission authorized
the City Attorney to draw up an agreement with Mr. Baker.
30. Building Code Ordinance. Commissioner Kay made a motion to pass the
Building Code Ordinance on all three readings. Commissioner Waiters
seconded. There were five ayes.
31. Mini Store A lication. Tenneco Gas Company's application to sell
beer at t eir station on North Federal Highway, near the northern
boundary was presented. The City Attorney stated that since this 'area
has the proper grocery store zoning they can be issued a license for
consumption of beer off premises.

32. De-annexation. The City Manager asked the City Attorney to draw up a
resolution to the Legislative Delegation concerning de-annexation of
a part of our City by Fort Lauderdale. Mr. Walden said the resolution
should read that no area be removed from the existing City, and that
he would draw up such a resolution.

33. Silverman. Commissioner Waiters made a motion to adopt a
resolution of necessity for assessing sidewalk costs on
Mrs. Silverman's property across from the Post Office.
Commissioner Kay seconded. There were five ayes.
