COMMISSIONERS: Joseph Thornton

® Bob Grammer
CITY CLERK-AUDITOR E.R. Clay '
:'RASH TRUCKS
f^ ® „ayor Houston states that the 'purpose of this meeting is to award the contract
?F for the new garbage trucks to the lowest bidder. The conclusion arrived at
was that the cost of the garbage trucks will be $11,631.59 without .trades and
$1.1,031.59 with the trade of the two old trucks. Mayor Houston was of the
opinion that the City could get more than $600.00 for the two trucks if sold
privately. Commissioner Waiters suggested that the City do just that and not
• trade them in'. Mayor Houston felt it was not advisable for the City to keep
too much old equipment about, as it does cost the City money to maintain.
„r. Grammer explain that in order to keep the same operation as we have now,
the City requires four trucks in garbage for sanitation and that the old pattern
will be used for boxes two days a week in the commercial section. The new
trucks cannot be used as box truck as they won't take the boxes. Mayor Houston
%,,anted to know why they will not take the boxes . Mr. Grammer stated that they
are not designed for it. Mayor Houston is of the opinion that we are getting
two new trucks and one of them is 21' .bed, and that we should not have any other
trucks besides these two, whether it is for boxes or anything else. Mr. Grammer
explained further that he has four trucks for sanitation. They will go out in
the morning with two trucks; one truck is usually back in by about 10 to 11 0'
clock, because he has a part of the load left from the previous day because he
doesn't want to go to the incinerator with half a load. He will come ih to pick
up another truck and then I have the driver take this truck to the incinerator
in the morning, so that three of'.the men and me can go back and go to work in-
stead of spending time in going back and forth to the incinerator. Then when he
comes in this afternoon say 2.30 or 3.00 o'clock, he will only have about a half
a load, which he leaves to the following morning and then he takes thattruck
back out fill it up by about 10 o'clock and then the driver will take it back to
tile incinerator.
The general feeling is that we do not keep the old trucks. Commissioner Thornton
p mace a motion that we award the contract to Powell Motors Company at their bid
price of $11,631.59 and a decision will be made at a later date, concerning the
other trucks rather than trade them in. Motion was seconded by Commissioner
L%'aiters that Powell Motors be awarded the contract at their bid price of $11,631.59
without trade. Roll call was made.
