HomeMy WebLinkAbout31048 - MINUTES - City Commission MINUTES OF MEETING OF CITY COMMISSION, CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, HELD OCTOBER 9, 1968. Mayor Robert Kelly called the meeting to order and asked the Clerk to call the roll and the following Commissioners and City Officials were present: Mayor-Commissioner Robert Kelly Commissioners Robert E. Houston Richard Marant Joseph Thornton Boisy N. Waiters City Manager Stanley Goldberg Acting City Clerk Thomas D. Franklin City Attorney Clarke Walden City Attorney Clarke Walden stated that Mr. Thomas Franklin, Acting City Clerk, had given the Commission a Certificate signed by him, showing the results of the election held on October 8, 1968, indicating the six candidates with the highest votes to be: Boisy N. Waiters, Robert B. Kelly, Mary P. Thornhill, Donald A. Wells, Frank Adler and Gus Brice. Commissioner Joseph Thornton stated that he would like to check the totals on the machines. It was decided that the entire Commission would accompany Mr. Franklin, Acting City Clerk, and would check each machine at each precinct. Motion was then made by Commissioner Thornton that the results of the election be certified at this time and would stand, unless there is a mistake found in the totals. Commissioner Waiters seconded the Motion and the Commission voted as follows: Houston yes Marant yes Thornton yes Waiters yes Kelly yes City Attorney Walden presented a letter he had received from Mr. Melvin Muroff, regarding the passing of an Ordinance on third reading from an existing classification to R-Apartment zoning. ' Mr. Muroff in his letter suggested a set back condition to go along with the Right of Way Deed he had executed to the City. After discussion regarding this, the omm� i ers refused the condition and Mr. Matthew Spenadel, representing Mr. Muroff asked to be excused from the meeting to make a telephone call to check with Mr. Muroff regarding this. Request was allowed. City Manager Goldberg presented a bill which he had received from Carl Zenobia regarding a paving job on Dixie Highway in the amount of $950.00. City Engineer John Farina stated that hechecled the work and the new grades for the three inlets that were redone and did observe the water running down the swales from the new swales that were paved to the inlets. He stated that when the water is finished running there are two small puddles that remain but he was sure that with traffic going in and out of the driveway it would be displaced. He stated that he thought the work was satisfactory. Mayor Kelly stated that he just came from there and there was about an inch of water puddle right in the alley and he does not think it will last six months with cars driving through. Engineer Farina statedthat he was told that the contract began at the South edge of the alley and it went to the inlet, and that that portion drains. Mr. Goldberg stated that right at the edge of the alley (indicating what he meant on a drawing) there was a hook and the water stood because of the hook. Commissioner Thornton stated that if the Engineer said the work was completed according to what was shown on the blue print that he thought the bill should b^ paid. Mr. Houston made a Motion that the bill be paid, Mr. Thornton seconded the Motion. The Commission voted as follows: - 1 - Houston yes Marant no Thornton yes Waiters yes W ' Kelly no r: Motion passed. ,;, Mr. Matthew Spenadel, who was representing Mr. Melvin Muioff, 'K returned to the meeting and stated that Mr. Muroff withdraws his condition and will submit the right-of-way deed without conditions. Commissioner Houston made a Motion to pass the .;Y ordinance rezoning certain _lands to R-Apartment zoning on third and final reading, Commissioner Marant seconded the Motion and f the Commission voted as follows: Houston yes ri Marant yes Thornton yes ' ® Kelly yes Waiters yes Motion passed. Mr. William Carney, Sewer Superintendent, asked to be recognized. i He stated that at a meeting last May 20th,it was approved to pay $150.00 to Mrs . Cochran regarding the Easement on the Mulligan-Cochran property on S. E. 2nd Avenue. He stated that a Purchase Order was written in June for the field work and Mr. John Farina was told to hold it, and Mrs. Cochran is still waiting for the $150.00. Commissioner Houston asked if we had the deed yet and Mr. Carney O replied "no", as there was a hold on it. It was determined that this matter would be looked into by the City Manager and Engineer John Farina to see why the hold was put on it. No further business to be discussed, the Mayor adjourned the meeting. a 2 .,F
