HomeMy WebLinkAbout31084 - MINUTES - City Commission h!:_NJT S OF A SPECIAL MEETING, CITY COMMISSION, CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, HELD AT 8:00 P. M. ON FEBRUARY 22, 1968. The City Commission of the City of Dania, Florida, met in session in the Commission Room at the City Hall. Present were: Commissioners Robert Houston (absent) Richard Marant Joseph Thornton Boisy N. Waiters Mayor-Commissioner Robert Kelly City Attorney Clarke Walden Acting Chief Police Donald Parton Building Inspector Hubert Walker Acting City Clerk Jeane Moore City Manager Stanley Goldberg Bills - Motion was made to pay Lindfors and Waite's bill for $1500.00 by Commissioner Waiters, seconded by Commissioner Marant. Voting went as follows: Commissioners Marant yes Thornton yes Waiters yes Kelly yes Motion passed . Notion was made by Commissioner Marant to approve the bills for the month of January 1968 and was seconded by Commissioner Waiters. Com- missioner Thornton asked about S. E. Chapter of American Institute of Planning Bill. Mr. Goldberg explained this publication, which the city receives . Motion passed . R. E. Derecktor property agreement - Mayor Kelly stated the City had not yet received any word from them and the agreement is pending. Motion was made by Commissioner Waiters to table this matter, seconded by Com- missioner Marant. Voting went as follows: Commissioners Marant yes Thornton yes Waiters yes Mayor-Comm. Kelly yes Notion passed. Bids - Fleet Water Line - Motion was made by Commissioner Marant that the bids not be accepted, seconded by Commissioner Waiters. They may be re- advertised. Commissioner Waiters made this note, that if the bids were not going to be accepted the Fleet Transport should assume at least 25 per cent of the cost. Voting went as follows: Commissioners Marant yes Thornton yes Waiters yes Mayor, Comm. Kelly yes Motion passed . Mayor Kelly had some answers to Mr. Grammers questions of the last meet- ing. He explained that the trailer park involved had been back charged and this bill has been paid. However, the Building Inspector is going to check all trailer parks in the City against their license to see if they are being charged correctly. As to the number of people who have not hook- ed-up the City Manager gave a figure of approximately three hundred people who have not yet hooked-up. Mr. Walden has made a recommendation that he - 1 - write a letter to be sent out to these people giving them until the 15th of March to obtain a permit and about thirty days to hook-up after that time. Those who do not comply will be forced to by sev- eral suggested methods . If there are cases of hardship, these persons should come to see the City Manager. Mr. Grammer questioned the number of persons not hooked-up. Mayor Kelly mentioned that we were getting very good response from the cards that had been mailed out checking on sewer charges. Mr. DiMauro questioned the catagories listed on these cards . Mr. Nitzsche claimed he did not receive a card but was assured that he would receive one. He also claimed to have checked on a trailer park. Mayor Kelly asked if there was anyone who did not receive a card on eighth street to let the City Clerk know and one would be sent. Salaries - Mr. Goldberg had prepared a list of names with proposed wage increases . There was quite a discussion on proposed pay raises for a patrolman in the police department. Commissioner Thornton asked the City Manager if the list he had submitted was what the Department heads had suggested. Mr. Goldberg said they were. Commissioner Thornton said his committee had made recommendations and would like to check these raises with the department heads. Commissioner Thornton claims that he did not get Mr. Goldberg's list until this afternoon and had not had time to check it over. Mayor Kelly agreed that the Commission should sit sown and go over this list. In answer to a question by Mr. Wells, Civil Service Board representative, Mayor Kelly said that there are six steps on the pay scale for each salary category. The Commission agreed to meet with all the department heads on the following Tuesday night in the conference room. Commissioner Waiters brought up the subject of Federal grants. It would not cost the City any money at the present time. The City would first have to qualify, and it would take some research. He mentioned that many other cities in Broward County are now getting Federal aid. He pointed out that Dania could probably get Federal aid for development of an in- dustrial tract. He mentioned that there were seven steps of qualifica- tion. There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. ayo - omm ssion 2 - �f
