Walden Present Acting City Clerk Present CHANGE OF ZONING - 2nd reading for change of zoning of Williams Maurawski West 181 of Blocks 1, 2 , 3 and 4, and all of Blocks 596, 7 and B, of Harbor Lawns No.l, said property being located North of Dania Jai Alai Fronton, East Dania Beach Boulevard, Dania, Florida. Attorney A.J. Ryan for the client asked that the Commission have a special meeting in order that we may rezone the afore- mentioned property. Motion was made by Commissioner Kelly and seconded by Commissioner Waiters to change the zoning classification. Objection were called for: Jack Clark made an objection that the last time this change was before the commission it was tabled until Condominum Zoning could be considered. The Mayor pointed out that the Condominium Zoning would have no use for Attorney Ryan's client as stated in a letter from him. Further development plans were requested. Harry Hillard of sed change of zoning on the basis that R-3 is the lowest type g• • Mr. A.J . Ryan displayed aerial photos before the Commission, and explained his clients desires. Mayor Marant asked Mr. Howie Burgess his opinion as a real estate broker and this answer was that value of the land as to condominium • or multiple type dwelling; "I think it would be very good" He felt that the Zoning Board would control the building in this area even if it were changed to R-3 and it would help build the city. Commissioner Kelly questioned Mr. Ryan about the possibility of his client working along with the zoning board if the zoning were • changed. Mr. Ryan pointed out that at the present time condominiums buildings are exempt only $5,000.00 per building. Mr. Clark suggested that Mr. Hillard, a local builder, should sit in with Mr. Ryan as a planning consultant. Commissioner Kelly felt that this would be considered as good citizen participation and would aid in the growth of Dania. Motion passed the second reading. Voting as follows: Commissioner Adams No Commissioner Brice Yes Commissioner Kelly Yes - • Commissioner Waiters Yes Mayor Marant Yes SIGN VARIANCE - Dania Chamber of Commerce has requested a Welcome Sign be placed on the west side of U.S. No. 1 immediately north of the canal , north of Griffin Road, sponsored by the Dania Chamber • of Commerce. In order that people who might object or want to know something about it could be present, tb is matter was postponed until Monday night, November 6th as suggested by Mayor Marant. • •.4i Mr. . Don Mott Vice President o ~ f the Chamber of Commerce , displayed a sketch of the proposed welcome sign. He explained that there were panels in the sign and that the Chamber plans to rent the spaces to the businesses in the area and thereby bringing a revenue into the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Walden claimed it to be a private sign with the Chamber backing , leased out for private adertising. s When first presented the Chamber only planned to sponsor the sign. Now they plan to have complete control of the sign. This matter has already been before the Planning & Zoning Board. NEE 3 Mr. Walden suggested that there be a recommendation from the Zoning Board and the matter be put on the agenda for the next meeting, Monday, November 6th. Mayor Marant said "The American Legion sign that was put up at the North end of the city can be taken down and taken to the American Legion Hall". There were no objections. TRANSFER OF LICENSE: Transfer of the Viking Liquor License - this had been approved by the Police Department. Mr. Walden suggested that it be approved at this time due to the Chamber of Commerce dinner the following night, and there would be no questions as to the legality of serving from the bar. Motion was made by Commissioner Waiters that the Viking be granted P transfer of liquor license, seconded by Commissioner Kelly. There being no questions the voting went as follows: ` i Commissioner Adams Yes Commissioner Brice Yes Commissioner Kelly Yes Commissioner Waiters Yes Mayor Marant Yes ATTORNEY REPORT - Mr. Walden had received several phone calls from H.E. McCombs concerning a car which has been picked up on the junk removal program. Mr. McCombs claimed to have written the City Manager about the incident and had also contacted Bill Jones of the police department. He claimed they had not made a careful a search as they _ should have to determine the ownership of the car. Mr. Goldberg's secretary, Mrs. Berry, indicated that the Police Chief and City Manager were planning to recommend to the Commission that damages he paid to Mr. McCombs. The police department did receive a complaint on this vehicle , parked on the wrong side of the road and in the wrong direction. The vehicle was towed away and of this date was i parked behind the police department. Mr. McCombs claimed it was first hauled to the junk yard and dismantled, then after he complained it was reassembled. Mr. McCombs did not receive a written answer to his letter and Mr. Walden felt that if it were not settled there was a possibility of a suit . Sgt. Jones felt that a $100.00 settlement was a peaceable way out. Motion was made by Commissioner Adams to pay the $100.00 to Mr. _ H. E. McCombs in payment for his car, seconded by Commissioner Kelly. Voting as follows: Commissioner Adams Yes Commissioner Brice Yes Commissioner Kelly Yes Commissioner Waiters Yes Mayor Marant No Motion passed. POSITION OF THE FLAG: Mr. William Davis requested that the American Flag which stands on the Commission tp .atform be returned to its proper place. Mayor Marant asked that Dania set aside and honor "Poppy Day" and also "Dania Education Day". Ther being no furth�siness the meeting was adjourned.
