DANIA CITY COMMISSION
WORKSHOP MEETING
NOVEMBER 20, 1989
ROLL CALL:
Present :
Mayor: Charles McElyea
Vice-Mayor: Bob Mikes
Commissioners : Jean Cook

John Bertino
City Manager: Robert Flatley
City Clerk: Wanda Mullikin
1 . Interviews with candidates for Growth Management
Director
City Manager. Flatley presented an overview of work history
on Mr. Jeff Meyer and commented that he has extensive
background in planning and development in city and regional I
matters . i
Jeff Meyer was present to inform the Commission that, he is
Presently the Executive Director of a Regional Planning
Commission in Ohio which involves working for several city
I and county agencies and informed the Commission of his work
experience in the western section of the United States .

City Manager Flatley introduced William Allen to the
Commission and informed them that he has had 13 years of job
stability in Illinois .
William Allen informed the Commission that he is presently t
the Director of Planning and Development for the Village of
Glen Ellyn, Illinois . Mr. Allen gave an overview of his
accomplishments during his 13 years of employment with the `
Village of Glen Ellyn, Ill . Ile also discussed his reasons I
i for making this employment change and moving to Florida.
2. Discussion of policy regarding Commission/staff
negotiation of City leases and contracts . (Vice-Mayor
Mikes)

jVice-Mayor Mikes expressed his concerns wi.th the procedures
used to negotiate city leases and contracts and the lack of
public notification . Vice-Mayor Mikes felt that community
involvement is very necessary in establishing confidence in
the City Commission and requested a new policy be
implemented.
Discussion continued regarding a resolution approving
supplement to January 16 , 1981 lease and license agreement
between the City and Aragon Group Inc, being
placed on the
Special Meeting agenda for November 21 prior to proper
notice to the public.
