WORKSHOP MEETING

1 . Discussion regarding Family and Friends Day at Modello Park on
Saturday, May 23, 1987 .
Laverne Gooden, representing the Dania Activities Committee,
presented the Committee ' s plans for Family Day at Modello Park on
May 23rd . She described the activities scheduled to begin at
11 : 00 a .m. , including helicopter rides and a puppet show, and
explained that they expect the music portion to end at 6 : 00 p .m.
She mentioned that Police Chief Thivener has already been
contacted regarding security. She asked for the City ' s pledge of
support and backing, having co-sponsored this successful event in
the past .
Mardie Holloway, Recreation Coordinator at Modello Park, said
baseball games will also be played throughout the day and the
Oldtimers ball game will start at 7 : 30 p .m. b
Charlie Thomas, President of the Dania Activities Committee, is in
charge of contacting local organizations regarding booths for the I
event .
While discussing the estimated costs, noting that last year the
city donated $500 to co-sponsor the event, City Manager Jewell and
the Commissioners volunteered to seek contributions from local
J businesses .
The Commission generally agreed to hold a Special Meeting on
Monday, May 18, 1987, at 7 : 30 p .m . The Activities Committee was
asked to prepare a budget, an activities schedule, and a list of
who is responsible for what, and to bring these items to the
Special Meeting .
This Workshop meeting was then adjourned .
