DANIA CITY COMMISSION
WORKSHOP MEETING
APRIL 21 , 1986

1 . Interviews of Engineering Proposals for llth Year Block Grant
Project:
A. 4 : 00 - Robert Miller
Robert Miller presented a proposal to perform the engineering
services for the City for the llth year block grant project.
' ! The project scope ranging from preliminary design,
coordination with City and County, final design,
construction, testing and project close-out were detailed by 'r4
Leo Schwarzberg, Project Manager for Robert H. Miller &
Assoc.
B. 4 : 15 - Berry & Calvin
John Calvin presented Berry & Calvin' s proposal to perform
the engineering services for the City for the llth year block
grant project, describing the firm' s performance record for
the first 10 years of the block grant program.
It was generally agreed that the Commission would hold a Special
Meeting for the next step of rating the engineering firms, the
date and time of that Special Meeting to be set at the next
Regular Meeting of April 22 , 1986 .
2. Review of recommended changes to original budget revision proposal
for General Fund & Federal Revenue Sharing Fund.
In compliance with Commission instruction, Acting City Manager
Mullikin presented an alternate budget revision plan that would
include funding for the hiring of 7 Police Dept. employees and 1
Fire Dept. employee. She also presented another alternate plan to
fund 2 Police Dept. employees and 1 Fire Dept. employee, and
described the impact either of these 85-86 budget revision plans
would have on the 86-87 fiscal year' s budget.
It was noted for the record that the Fire Department' s original
request was to provide for two new employees. Fire Chief Grammer f
presented justification, stating that fire inspection of new I
construction occupies 95% of the present Fire Inspector' s time,
resulting in little or no time for routine fire inspection of
existing buildings. `

The reclassification of Secretary to Computer Operator in order to j
provide some backup for the present Systems Manager, Vern Johnson,
was also explained.

After lengthy discussion of the City' s needs and the 6'
Commissioners' expressions of what they would like to do versus
what they could do without raising taxes, Acting City Manager
Mullikin was directed to add provisions for funding 3 new Police
Dept. employees and 1 new Fire Dept. employee to the proposed
85-86 revised budget on the agenda for the next regular meeting of
j April 22 , 1986 .
