{ WORKSHOP MEETING
JANUARY 3 , 1986
ROLL CALL:

The Workshop meeting to interview the applicants for the
position of Police Chief was called to order by Mayor
Bertino.

i The Commissioners, having reviewed the resumes of the five
finalists, Charles Anderson, James DeCoursey, James Serpe,
James Sewell and Gilbert Thievner, conducted interviews with j
each candidate individually.
During the interview with James Serpe, Commissioner Hirsch ¢
asked City Manager Jewell to report on the status of investi-
gations for the record. City Manager Jewell stated that,
based on latest information received, it appears that the 1
State Attorney' s Office would not be prosecuting any Dania
Police Officers. i

Noting that this workshop was to be followed by a Special {
Meeting to adopt a resolution to appoint a Police hief, the
workshop meeting was then adjourned.

roll call , but was present when the meeting was
reconvened. )
Upon the advice of Counsel , the Special Meeting to fill the
position of Police Chief was reconvened and called to order
by Mayor Bertino.
Assistant City Attorney Adler explained that the voting

then re-recorded and those Commissioners who abstained by

City Attorney Adler.

A motion was made by Commissioner Hirsch, seconded by
Commissioner Cook to adopt the Resolution appointing James
Serpe as Police Chief at an annual compensation of $39 ,000 .
The motion failed on the following roll call vote:

annual compensation of $39,000 . The motion failed on the
following roll call vote:
