Discussion Regarding Sewer Rehabilitation Proa_ram,_
` City Manager Marant reported on the status of the sewer
rehabilitation project . Commenting on the results of the sewer
system evaluation survey, he stated that every three or four years
a line survey will be done as part of an ongoing maintenance
^ program.
The results of Fitzgerald Sewer Service ' s TV analysis of the s
Ii pipelines were viewed.
John Calvin described the infiltration/inflow problems which exist
j predominantly on the east side of the City and said the bottom
i line cost estimate for sewer rehabilitation is $365 ,000 (excluding
financing costs ) . He explained that if all the known leaks were
repaired, the City could save approximately $150 ,000 to $170,000
per year in transmission, treatment , operations and maintenance
:.,
costs , so that with an estimated cost of sewer rehabilitation of
$365,000 and a savings of $150 ,000 per year , the cost of the }
repair work would be paid back in less than three years.
John Calvin recommended implementing a program to repair the sewer
system, dividing it into two phases , and pursuing available State
and Federal grants for the second phase while working on the cost
effective leaks now as phase 1 . 1
City Manager Marant stated that before the Commission makes a
decision regarding bidding in phases , Administration must
investigate further the cost effective and minimal leaks and study
the merits of phasing or not.
iIt was agreed that discussion of the sewer rehabilitation program
will be placed on the aaenda for the March 27th Commission Meetina
and Administration will present a recommendation at that time.
3 The Workshop meeting was then adjourned.
