HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1979-329 RESOLUTION NO. 329 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, IN SUPPORT OF THE INCLUSION OF THE OLD DANIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC SITES AND PLACES. WHEREAS, the Old Dania Elementary School existed when the Broward County School system was created; and WHEREAS, the Structure has weathered hurricanes , tornadoes , fire and many generations of Broward County students ; and WHEREAS, the building represents the educational heritage of many of Broward County ' s first citizens and pioneers who received their education within its walls and on its grounds ; and WHEREAS, the Dade County pine and the hollow the used in the construction of the building represent an early era of South Florida 's development; and WHEREAS, it was the first school in Florida to admit and teach Florida Indian children, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania, Florida, joins with the Broward County Preservation Board, the Dania Historical Society, other Historical Societies of South Broward and Congressman Edward J. Stack in seeking to place the Old Dania Elementary School on the National Register of Historic Sites and Places in order that restoration funds may be secured. Section 2 . That the City Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Edward J. Stack, United States House of Representatives , 12th District. Section 3 . That this resolution shall be in force and J i 1 take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED on this 28thday of August , 1979 .
