RESOLUTION NO. 116-90
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA,
j ENDORSING THE SITING AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE
NEW WORLD AQUARIUM TO BE LOCATED IN THE
HISTORIC ARTS, SCIENCE AND EDUCATION DISTRICT
OF THE CITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE, BROWARD
COUNTY, FLORIDA; AND COMMENDING THE SCHOOL
BOARD OF BROWARD COUNTY, TOGETHER WITH THE
CITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE, IN THEIR RESPECTIVE
ROLES AS PARTICIPANTS TO SUPPORT FUNDING AND
DEVELOPMENT OF THIS WORLD-CLASS AQUATIC
EXHIBITION FACILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Aquarium Advisory Committee initiated studies
through design professionals to determine the feasibility of and
location of a world-class aquatic exhibition facility to be located
in Broward County, Florida; and

WHEREAS , the Aquarium Advisory Committee finds that the
location of the New World Aquarium should be in the Historic Arts, tt
Science and Education District of. the City of Fort Lauderdale as
supported by the Concept and Feasibility Report prepared by Wallace
Roberts & Todd and dated ,Tune of 1990 ; and
WHEREAS , the School Board of Broward County at its regular
meeting of July 17 , 1990 , approved the siting of the New World
Aquarium under Resolutin No. 90-180 ; and
WHEREAS , the School Board of Broward County, at its regular
meeting of July 24 , 1990, initiated the submittal of a Public
Education Capital Outlay (DECO) grant application to the
Commissioner of Education, the Honorable Betty Castor, to
facilitate the design and construction of the New World Aquarium;
and

WHEREAS , the New World Aquarium will be a benefit to the
citizens of Broward County by offering environmental education ,
promoting conservation of Florida ' s freshwater and marine habitats,
and fostering economic education and housing research facilities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania
does hereby endorse the development of. the New World Aquarium to be
located in the Historic Arts, Science and Education District of the
City of. Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and further endorses its
promotion of environmental education and conservation of Florida' s
freshwater and marine habitats.
Section 2. That this resolution shall be in force and take
effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
