HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1988-056 7 RESOLUTION NO. 56-88 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING THE AREA PLATTED AS COLLINS PARC TO BE NAMED "BYRD POINTE" TO HONOR, AND IN MEMORY OF, FORMER MAYOR CHESTER A. BYRD, WHO DEDICATED THE LAST YEARS OF HIS EXEMPLARY LIFE SERVING THE CITIZENS OF DANIA AS A MEMBER OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD, CITY COMMISSION AND AS MAYOR; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, former Mayor Chester A. Byrd, served the citizens of the City of Dania as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board, Executive Director of Dania Development Authority, City Commission and as Mayor, the position he held at the time of his untimely death ; and WHEREAS, throughout his many years of service his highest goal and priority was to provide help and assistance to the poor and disadvantaged . He was especially concerned with providing affordable housing for those of limited resources . The development of the Collins Parc property was conceived and promoted by Chester Byrd who worked tirelessly to bring this project to its fruition; and WHEREAS, the City Commissioners desire to acknowledge the work and dedication of this outstanding public servant rendered in connection with this accomplishment . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA: Section 1 . That the City Commissioners of the City of Dania, Florida, individually and on behalf of its citizens , in recognition of the outstanding work and dedication of Chester A. Byrd in causing affordable housing for our citizens of limited resources to become a reality, hereby direct that the area of the City of Dania platted as Collins Parc shall hereinafter be known and referred to as "BYRD POINTE" in honor of this great American . Section 2. That a copy of this resolution be furnished to Eugenia Byrd, former "First Lady" of our City. J Resolution No. 56-88 Section 3. That this resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED on this 25th day of October 1988.
