Section 1: This section applies to, and specifies the
regulations and provisions prescribed ror the erection , display
and maintenance of all signs displayed in ail areas zoned for

single or two family buildings. (Res A and A-1) .
A. SIGNS PElaITTF_.D No other sign or signs of any ae-
scription, shall be displayed except as prescribea in the follow-
ing paragraphs (� -1) , (A-2) , (A-3) .
1. IDE:N'TIFICA'TIUN SIGNS The owner or the occupant i

of any building may erect and maintain a sign indicating the name
of the property, if named, the name of uhe occupant, and the street
i
number of the building. Such signs may be erected any place upon
the premises, provided such sign is in reasonable and general con-
formity with other signs of like nature in the vicinity.
2 . FOR SALE OR N'OR KtLay1' SIGN$ Dio "For Sale" or "For
Pent" sign or combination thereof shall exceed four (4) square
feet in total surface area. Such signs shall be securely erected,
so that the bottom of the sign is no more than three (3) feet
above the ground. Such signs shall be no less than five (5) feet
from the sidewalk line. Only one sign snail be displayed for
any contiguous property under one ownership.
3. ADVTitT'ISING SIGNS AT BUILDINGS IDvDrR UOPIS'TRUC'TION

Any individual, contractor, sub-contractor, builder, firm or cor-
poration, engaged in construction upon a building during the
period of construction , and for such period only, may display a
sign advertising the fact . Such signs shall oe securely erected

B. No directional signs of any kind, except those
erected or displayed by public authority are permitted.

C . No signs erected, displayed or maintained
shall
be either directly or indirectly illuminated.

D. No permit Is required f'or any sign described in
this Section 1 hereof.
Section 2: This section applies to, and specified the
regulations and provisions prescrioed for the erection , display

and mainenance of all signs displayed in all areas zoned for
apartments, hotels and motels and calssified as Res B, B-.1 and C_.

Section. 1 hereof is applicable to all buildings classified under
this section . No other signs of any description shall oe dis-
played except apartment house , hotel ov motel signs, which may be

erected and displayed according to the regulations prescribed
in the following paragraphs (A-1) , (A-2) , (A-3) of this Section 2.

I 1. APAIii'PA IT BUILDING SIGNS Any hotel, apartment
building, motel, motor court or rooming house may erect one
sign displaying the name of the building, the use of the build-
ing and the words "Vacancy" or "No Vacancy", upon such sign, the
i total surface area of which does not exceed twenty (20) square
feet . Such sign may oe attached to the building or it may be
detached and erected on the ground but shall not be closer than -
five (5) feet to any property line .
2. All signs permitted in A-1 tnis section may be
illuminated, however, all signs illuminated by neon tubeing must
be constructed entirely of non-combustible material . All signs of
a permanent nature, must be constructed rigid and fastened se-
curely, so as to withstand a wind pressure of fifty (50) pounds
per square feet .
3. Signs may be lettered directly on buildings as
long as they conform to regulations of this Section 2,
B. No directional signs of any kind, except those

erected or displayed by public authority are permitted.
C- Permits are required for all illuminated signs B Per-

Section 3; This section applies to and specified the
regulations and provisions prescribed f'or the erection, display
and maintenance of all signs displayed in all areas zoned for
business or industrial, classified as A and B-Business and
A-Industrial.
A. ID04TIFICA'1'IUI< SIGNS At all sigrile and two family
buildings, identification signs may be displayed' as specified
in paragraph A-1 of Section 1, hereof.

B. FOR SALE, FUR REi1'T, FUR LEASE SIGNS Paragraph A-2,
Section 1 is applicable to any single or multiple family build-
ing within the area to which Section 3 pertains; however on vacant
property a "For Sale" or "For Lease" sign may be displayed
provided the toLal surface area thereof does not exceed ten (10)
square feet. On vacant improvea property a "For Sale" or "For
Lease" sign may be displayed in or on a window of such building
providing the total surface does not exceed ten (10) square
feet.
C . ADVERTISING SIGNS AT BUILDINGS UNDtt( UUVS'1'kUCY'I0 /
Paragraph A-3 of Section 1 is applicable to any building construe- II
tion within the areas to which this Sectiun 5 pertains ; however,
e sign may be displayed as co the proposed use of a building and 111
the proposed occupant of the building, providing the size and

construction of such sign meets with the approval of the building
inspector.
D. WINDOW SIGNS Any business room may have the name
and business lettered upon its window or windows and upon its
entrance door or doors .
E. PERMITS REQUIRED Ido permit is required for the
erection of display of any sign described in paragraphs A, B,
C and D.
F. HORIZONTAL eROJECrING SIGNS Any business may dis-
play one horizontal projecting sign from each wall or roof of

the store room they occupy, providing such sign does not extend
more than five (5) feet over public property, or exceed forty (40)
{ square feet in surface area.
G. FLAT SIGNS May be erected parallel to the face of, I
or on the outside wall of any builaing and supported throughout

its length by such wall. in no case shall such flat signs ex-

tend more than IS incnes beyond Lae race of the building. Such
signs may be of any size, bur may not extend beyond any face of
the building mr above the parapet wail .
H. vERTICAh VRUJh;UlDG SIGNS Vertical signs may be
erected upon the wail of a business building and extend over

public property not to exceed five (5) feet. Vertical signs con-
structed as an integral part of a building, may extend above the
parapet wall not to exceed ten (10) feet , and when fastened to a
building after its erection , shall not exceed six (6) feet above

the top of the parapet wall.
1. Combinations of horizontal and vertical project-
ing signs are permitted when they conform to the regulauions of
this paragraph.
I . ROOF SIGNS Signs erected upon the roof of a build-
ing may Le of any desired size , but may not bloex Lhe free
passage from one part of the roof to another part. The building
inspector may require a registered engineerts structual drawing i,

for all roof signs in excess of 100 square feet in area, showing
i
j that said sign will withstand a wind pressure of 50 pounds per
square foot .
J. ?¢iARQL SIGNS Signs may be displayed on the outer
i
rim of a marquee and shall not extend below the bottom of such
structure, nor to exceed two (2) feet above theroof of the mar-
j quee . Signs affixed underneath a marquee shall be rigid with the

marquee . Signs shall have a clearance above the sidewalk of not
less than nine (9) feet .

K. PULU, SIGNS In any area covered by this Section 6,
where a set back from the street line is required or is pro-
;
i
vided by the owner, a pole sign may be erected in such area. Such
pole signs must be supporter by one or more metal standards and
shall be of rigid construction througnout so as to withstand a
wind pressure of fifty (50) pounds per square foot . Ail Stan-
dards shall be placed entirely on the property of the business
having such sign erected. No pole sign shall project more than
four (4) feet over public property, and all such signs which I

project over public property shall have an overhead clearance of
I nine (9) feet from the oottom 01- the sign . P?o pole sign shall
exceed fifty (50) square feet in surface area.
L. PAINT M SIGi4S Signs may be painted or lettered
directly on a building or structure . Such signs may display the
name of the building or business and any matter pertaining to pro-
ducts or services offered f'or sale therein or thereon.
1. YERIPAITS No permit is required for non-illuminated
painted signs of less than twenty-five (25) square feet.
j ID1. DItcMgiluNAL SIGNS Directional signs may bu erected
in areas zoned for business on highways U. S. No. 1 and AlA di-
recting the public to a business off' the highway on which the sign
is located, providing such signs display only the name of such
business and the necessary directions and meet all other regula-
tions of this ordinance , and shall be erected only pursuant to
express permission of the Oity Commission,
Section 41 COruvtEHulAL ADVEftiIS1NG SIGNS shall mean
any structure, display-boards, bulletin board, screen, surface
or wail, with characters, letters or illustrations placed thereto,
thereon or thereunaer, by any means or method whatsoever, where `
the matter displayed would be used for any purpose other than that
of advertising Lo the public the name of the firm or business or
the name of any service ur product actively being offered for sale
therein or thereon, and shall not mean any sign which offers the
property itself, or any part thereof, for sale, for rent or for

lease . Such commercial advertising signs may be displayed and
erected only as prescribed in paragraphs A ana B of this Section
i
4, hereof.
A. No commercial adver U sing signs may ou displayed
i
in the City of Dania, except along highway U.S. No. 1, north of
the Dania Cut Off canal.
B. NO commercial advertising sign shall be erected
having in excess of seven hundred 700 square feet of advertis-
ing surface , unless such sign is approved by the City Commission .
All structural members of any such sign shall be concealed by I

painted lattice work or planting , and such screening shall be
properly maintained. Every sign shall be kept in good condition
as to structure and appearance . The ground space within a radius
of ten (10) feet from the base oY any such structure shall oe
kept free and clear of all weeds, rubbish and inflammable matev-
ial. 2he City of Dania reserves the rignc to re_jiove any such
sign which shows neglect or which becomes dilapidated, or where
the premises whereon it is situated are not properly maintained,
and the cost of such Muoval shall be paid b the
Y person, firm or
corporation owning such sign, or by their agent responsible for
the placing of such sign.
C. No commercial advertising sign shall be erected
on or so that any portion of such sign overhangs any public pro-

regulations and provisions prescribed for the construction and
erection of all exterior signs within the City of Dania.
A. 0UD1STpN Every fabricated sign of any type , 1
kind, material, or form in excess of five (5) square feet, shall
be so constructed as to form a single rigid and substantial unit,
including the support of every part, excluding letters or charac-
ters fastened independently to a building . Every neon sign must
be constructed in its entirety of non-conbustible materials. All
signs shall be constructed to withstand a wind pressure of at
least fifty (50) pounds per square foot, except signs of less
than five (b) square feet and temporary signs allowed in tnis
ordinance such as real estate and signs at new construction,
B. ERI::CY'IUN No sign shall be erected so that any
support, brace or part thereof, rest on or is supportea on any
public property, and any sign that overhangs any y public property,
sidewalk or street shall have a clearance over such property, a
minimum of nine (9) feet .
C• NEON STRIP LIGI1r1NG may be erected on wood surfaces
provided all wiring is approved high-tension cable and run no
closer than 12 inches to any wood, unless enclosed in met
i al tubing, I

and located out or reach of the general public .
D. NEON SIGN WIRII,iG All primary anu secondary wiring, I
trarsl'ormers, flashers or electrical ueviees connected with any
neon sign must meet with the specific atiuns anu regulations of
the Natiunal Electrical Code and the National Underwriter Labora-
tory.
1. ALL 'TRANSFOWE:RS and electrical equipment used in
conjunction with neon signs must be enclosed in metal cans of
ample size to give ventilation around transformers and provide
with drain holes in bottom of such cans. When transformers are
placed on roofs they must be raised high enough above root' so
that under no condition they will oe sitting in water.
2. SECONDARY WIRING FOR I\EM SIGNS when run on roofs
or like inflamable surfaces must be run in approved metal tuo-
ing, or when run through walls or partitions of wood or life con-
structiun , must be run in approved metal tubing and the end of
such tubing turned down to prevent water from running back in or
a standing in such tubing.

Section 6 ; This sectiun applies to and specifies signs
not allowed in the City of Dania.
A. PAINTED SIGNS on streets, sidewaixs or other pub-
lie property are not allowed other than those placea there by f
public authority for the convenience and safety of the public.
B. SNIPE SIMNS of any material including paper, card-
board, wood or metal, shad not be tacked, nailed or fastened
in any manner to trees, posts or other objects on public proper-
ty where such sign does not apply to premises whereon it is located.
0., BANNER SIGNS of any type or material may be erected
only by promission of the City Council.

D. OBJE:C`1'IOP]AL SIGP,,S No sign snall be erected or main-
taineu in the City of Dania , that creates a traffic or fire
hazard or is dangerous to the general public.
1. No sign sizali display any statement , word, a narac-
ter or illustration of any obscene, indecent or immoral nature .
2. All signs must oe kept in good condition, neat

appearance , ana good state of repair; and any sign at least
50% destruyeu must be immediately removed and a new permit so-
cured oefore the sign is replaeea or repaired. All such re-
paired or replaced signs must conform to this ordinance.
Section 7: STREM, NUMBERS The City Bu_iaing Inspector
is nereoy investea with autnority to require the owner of any
building in the City of Dania to display the correct street num-
ber upon sucn ouilding.
Section 8 : Rtz!iOVAL uF SIG S Present signs that vio-
late this ordinance are not requirea to be removea unless they
become a puolic nazai•a or are at least bOp destroyed. Signs that
violate this ordinance may not oe cnangeu, altered or aadea-to
and must oe kept in a state of gooa re pgir.
Section 9: This section applies to, ana specifies the
rogulatiuns governing sign permits.
A. PER14ITS RhQLTIRkZ All signs allowed in this ordi-
nance require a permit issued by the City Builaing Inspector,
except those exempt from permits by provisions herein .

B. Before any person or persons oegin erection , post-
ing or painting, use or maintenance of any sign that is not exempt
from permit by this ordinance, he or they shall make application
to the City Building Inspector, and suomit drawings ana specifi-
cations as may oe necessary to fully advise ana acquaint the
Inspector with the location, eonsurueuion , weight, materials anti
manner of illumination anu of securing or fastening of such pro-
posed sign . If' said sign shall be in accordance with the provi-
sions of this ordinance and the National Electrical Code, then
the Building Inspector shall issue a permit for the erection of
any such sign upon the payment of the prescribed fee .

mit for erection or painting of a sign or neon lighting by a per-
son or firm, shall be issued unless such firm, person or persons
shall have first procured from the City of Dania an occupational
license to do sign painting and or neon lighting, installation and
maintenance .

Section 10: PENALTY r'UR VIOLATIUY Any agent,
builder, contractor, owner, or any other person, who commits,
takes part or assists in any violation of this Ordinance, or wbo
maintains any sign in violation of this Ordinance snail for
each and every violation , upon conviction be punished by a
fine not exceeding Two Hundred Dollars (,;p2UU.UO) or by impri-

sonment not exceeding tnirty (3U) days, or by ooth fine and
imprisonment in the discretion of the municipal Judge. Each
day that a violation exists after proper notification of such
violation , shall constitute a separate offense.

Section 11: SAVING CLAUSE If any Sections paragraph,
clause, or provision of this ordinance shall be adjudged invalid,
such adjudication shall only apply to the provision or provi-
sions so adjudged, and the remainder of this Ordinance shall
ne deemed valid and effective.
Section 12 : Any ordinance or number of ordinances
in conflict with any provision cf this ordinance are hereby

repealed only to the extent of such conflict. This ordinance
I
shall not in any way affect Ordinance No. 224, of the City of
I
Dania, passed and adopted the 2Uuh day of February, A. D.,
I
1950, regulating signs, advertising the price of gasoline at
fill:Lng stations .
