DANIA CITY COMMISSION
ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
MARCH 19, 1991.
ROLL CALL:
Present :
Mayor: Charles McElyea
Vice Mayor: Bob Mikes
Commissioners :, Bobbie Grace
John Bertino
City Attorney: Frank Adler
City Manager : Robert Flatley
City Clerk: Wanda Mullikin
Absent :
Commissioner: Jean Cook
Mayor McElyea called this Organizational Meeting to Order at approximately
8:00 P.M.
A motion was made by Commissioner Grace , seconded by Commissioner Bertino to
excuse Commissioner Cook from this meeting as she had to attend a meeting in
T` Tallahassee. The motion passed unanimously.
r: Commissioner Bertino made a motion, seconded by Vice Mayor Mikes to request
City Manager Flatley to prepare a proclamation on behalf of Commissioner Jean
Cook for her many years of dedicated service to the City of Dania along with
Ij presenting her with a plaque. The motion passed unanimously.

Pledge of Allegiance
Induction of New Commissioners by City Attorney Frank Adler
At this time, Bill Hyde and John Bertino were duly sworn in by City Attorney
Adler for the positions of Commissioner for the City of Dania .
Mrs. Barbara Bertino and family presented a Certificate of Election to her
husband, John Bertino, for being re-elected Commissioner for the City of
Dania .
Commissioner Bertino requested that the Commission consider changing the term
of Mayor to one year.
City Attorney Adler confirmed that the City Charter designates the term of
Mayor for two years and that an ordinance can be prepared and adopted to
change the Charter to a one year term for Mayor. He suggested that the
ordinance go thru the normal process of advertisement and adoption which
would make it ready for first reading at the next regular meeting of March
26, 1991 .
A motion was made by Commissioner Hyde , seconded by Commissioner Grace to
appoint an Acting Mayor and Acting Vice Mayor tonight and to direct City
Attorney Adler to prepare the ordinance changing the term of Mayor to one
year for the next regular meeting.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:

A motion was made by Commissioner Hyde , seconded by Commissioner Bertino to
nominate Vice Mayor Mikes as Acting Mayor .
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:
Commissioner Bertino-yes Vice--Mayor Mikes-yes
Commissioner Hyde-yes Mayor McElyea-no
Commissioner Grace-no
A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Commissioner Grace to
nominate Mayor McElyea as Acting Vice Mayor.
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:
Commissioner Bertino-yes Vice-Mayor Mikes-yes
Commissioner Hyde-yes Mayor McElyea-yes
Commissioner Grace-yes
Acting Vice Mayor McElyea then turned the gavel over to Acting Mayor Mikes
and expressed his appreciation for serving the City in the position of Mayor
for the past two years .
Responses - Commissioners and Vice Mayor
Commissioner Bertino commented that the election went very well and expressed
a desire to do a good job over the next four years as Commissioner.
Commissioner Bertino also expressed approval of the policy that has been
established here tonight with regards to the term of Mayor .

Commissioner Hyde expressed his appreciation to the voters and his wife on
their support in this election and expressed enthusiasm in working with the
Commission members over the next four years .
Commissioner Grace expressed congratulations to the newly elected members of
the Commission.
Acting Vice Mayor McElyea expressed his appreciation for those people who
have supported him as Mayor for the past two years and expressed his
continued devotion to the City of Dania .
Response - Mayor
Acting Mayor Mikes commended Acting Vice Mayor McElyea for his efforts as
Mayor over the past two years . He expressed appreciation to his wife,
i Sheila , for her support. He then expressed his positive feelings for the
growth that will be taking place in Dania and encouraged citizens to become
involved in the issues of the City.
Announcements
` City Attorney Adler acknowledged his wife, Heather , and Acting Vice Mayor
McElyea acknowledged his wife, Carol , for attending this meeting.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bertino, seconded by Acting Vice Mayor
McElyea to adjourn this meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
