RESOLUTION NO. 68-91
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA,
CREATING AN ADVISORY BOARD TO BE KNOWN AS
"PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD" ; AND
DEFINING GENERALLY THE PURPOSES AND DUTIES OF
SUCH BOARD; AND PROVIDING A METHOD OF
APPOINTING MEMBERS OF THE BOARD; AND PROVIDING
FOR THE AUTHORITY OF THE BOARD TO MAKE
RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE CITY COMMISSION AND THE
PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR OF THE CITY OF
DANIA ON MATTERS WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE
AUTHORITY OF THE BOARD; AND PROVIDING THAT ALL
RESOLUTIONS OR PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH BE REPEALED TO THE EXTENT OF
SUCH CONFLICT; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Article 3, Part XI of the Charter of the City of
y, Dania authorizes the City Commission of the City of Dania, by
�? resolution, to create advisory boards; and

i WHEREAS, the city commission deems it advisable and proper to

have an advisory board to be known as "Parks and Recreation
idAdvisory Board" , for the purpose of making recommendations on
w' matters concerning parks and recreation programs within the city
to the parks and recreation director and the city commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA:
' Section 1 . That an advisory board to be known as "Parks and ,
Recreation Advisory Board" , is hereby created under the provisions
of the Charter of the City of Dania.
Section 2. That said board shall have ten ( 10) members who
shall be registered voters within the City of Dania and who shall
be appointed from time to time as follows:
(a) One member to be appointed by each commissioner.
(b) One member to be appointed by the city manager.

(c) Four members to be appointed by the city commission
upon the recommendation of the advisory board with
such members to specifically represent
beautification, education, youth and senior
citizens.
All members are to serve without compensation. Said board shall
meet from time to time under rules and regulations which it may
promulgate. At the first meeting of the board, the members
thereof shall elect a chairman.
Section 3. It shall be the duty of said board to:
. ^ (a) Advise the city commissioners on issues concerning
parks facilities and recreation programs, to
include needs assessment, policy and evaluation of
,i programs and facilities .
(b) Advise the parks and recreation director on matters
concerning community recreation facilities and
programs.
(c) To act as a liaison between the department and the
jjcity commissioners .

(d) To regularly hold open public meetings in order to
,. ascertain public input into parks and recreation
issues.
(e) To promote the improvement of the quality of life
for all citizens through improved parks and
recreation programs and facilities.
Section 4. The chairman of the board, with the advise and
! consent of the parks and recreation director, shall have the right
to request the city commission to place on its agenda for
discussion any recommendations made by the board.
Section 5. Within thirty ( 30) days of the passage and
adoption of this resolution, the city commission, by motion, shall
designate and appoint the initial members of the board. At the

first meeting of the board, four persons shall be selected to be
recommended for appointment by the city commission to represent
interests of beautification, education, youth and senior citizens.
Section 6. Any member missing three ( 3) consecutive meetings
shall automatically be removed from the board and shall be
replaced in the same manner in which that member was originally
appointed.
Section 7. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in
conflict herewith be repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 8. That this resolution shall be in force and take
IX, effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
