RESOLUTION NO. 59-92
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, II
COMMITTING TO THE REMOVAL OF EXCESSIVE '
INFILTRATION AND INFLOW FROM THE CITY'S
SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Dania owns and maintains a separated
sanitary sewerage collection and conveyance system tributary to
the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in the City of
Hollywood; and
WHEREAS, the city, together with other large users of the
Southern Regional Wastewater Plant, participated in a study of
infiltration and inflow in the sewerage collection and conveyance
systems tributary to the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment
Plant; and
WHEREAS, the infiltration and inflow study concluded that the
Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant receives over 4 .3

million gallons per day of infiltration and inflow denominated
j therein as "excessive I/I"; and
WHEREAS, the infiltration and inflow study further concluded
that the excessive infiltration and inflow attributable to the
city' s collection and conveyance system as approximately .35
million gallons per day which can be cost-effectively removed from
the collection systems; and
WHEREAS, excessive infiltration and inflow is prohibited by
the city's Large User Agreement with Hollywood, and removal of
excessive infiltration and inflow is required to meet certain

federal water quality limits; and

3 WHEREAS, the infiltration and inflow study further delineates
a program for the reduction of excessive infiltration and inflow
at a projected total cost of $10. 7 million, for the entire
Southern Regional Sewer System; and
WHEREAS, the reduction of excessive infiltration and inflow
is in the interest of the city and its citizens to reduce the
amount of saline groundwater entering the system, ensure
compliance with federal regulations, EPS Administrative Order
No. 90-083 and the Large User Agreement and ensure that the city's
sewerage system is operated in a cost-effective manner. -
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA:

Section 1 . That the city shall participate in a further
study known as the Sewer System Evaluation Survey to define the ,sp?
tr
scope and cost of the city,s own infiltration and inflow reduction
program.
Section 2k That the city shall implement the corrective °
action program determined by the Sewer System Evaluation Survey
for the city,s collection and conveyance system, to the extent
that such program is consistent with the infiltration and inflow
study and does not exceed the city,s prorated share of the total
cost projected in the infiltration and inflow study for corrective
action to the city, s collection and conveyance system.

Section 3k That the city shall cooperate with pertinent

regulatory agencies and the other large users to ensure that the
entire infiltration and inflow reduction program is implemented in

an efficient and timely manner.

Section 4 . That this resolution shall be in force and take
effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
