arrests and 39 misdemeanor arrests result-ing in 125 cases cleared by the
criminal investigation unit. for Lhe month. Also during the month of
January, two prostitution stings were conducted on Federal Highway
resulting in 32 additional arrost.s .

1 .6 city Manager Flatley advised that a study needs to be conducted on
blighted areas in the Downtown Redevelopment: area to comply with State
SLalut:e:: , Mr . Flatley recommended approval of a consulting agreement
with Lance Clarke for a cost not to exceed $2, 000 and commented on Mr.
Clarke' s experience in this area.
('ommi ;aioner Bertino, Chairman of the Downtown Redevelopment Committee,
nrr'ntioned the need for the study to be conducted properly to establish a
legal district for condemnation reasons and in the event that the City

4 . 1 City Attorney Adler read the title of the ordinance adding a new 1'
section to the Dania Code entitled "Home Occupation" for second reading.
gill Allen , Growth Management Director, stated that this is the second
public hearing on this ordinance which defines home occupations within
residential districts as long as the uses meet standard which ensure
r:ompatibility within the neighborhood. He reported that staff and the

the ordinance to allow time for home owners associations to be contacted
in the event that they need to make changes to their condominium bylaws.

fi . EXPENDITURE REQUESTS
6 . 1 Bud Palm, ULilities Director, requested to extend a force main on
NW First Street from NW 14 Way to NW 10 Court and using Sewer Impact
Fees ($40, 000 +) under an existing Marandola Construction contract. He
commented on the recent I & I Study conducted on the Hollywood Sewer
Plant. that has shown this location in Dania in need of repair due to
over pumping of sewerage.
City Attorney Adler advised that competitive bidding is not necessary
and that this job can be. included under the Marandola Contract for a

savings to the City.

7 .2 Will Allen, Growth Management Director, recommended Walter H.
Keller, Jr. , Tnc. be hired to review plans for the future construction
j of NE 10 Street from US l to McIntosh Road based on their hourly rate
jf being lower than the other two proposals submitted .

City Attorney Adler commented on his efforts made to obtain a response �'. .
from the Department of Environmental Regulations , with copies the Army
Corps of Engineers , in regards to the legality of permits applied for on
this project by Hollywood Inc. , on behalf of the City, without proper
authorization by the City.

Associates to advise them that the City still has questions regarding ` +
