The projector was used to show a demonstration on cemetery costs in item 3. After
hnson stated that the overhead projector and projection panel
discussion of item 3, Mr. Jo
would cost around $5,000.
Commissioner Bertino suggested that the Citv require petitioners to provide a computer
diskette or camera ready copy of building documents or require petitioners to pay the fee to
have their documents scanned for the computer projector. The Commission generally agreed
that this would be a good idea but realized that all petitioners may not be able to provide their

City Attorney Adler reminded the Commission of Dania's efforts to go through the
procedure to take the jurisdiction of occupational license fees away from the legislature to
retain control over the fees charged. He said that businesses are protected as the statute covers
limitations on how much can be charged in some of the categories. Mr. Adler said that fees
no increases are allowed the rest of this vear an
can be reduced anytime, thatd that fees can be
increased by 5% next year.
City Manager Flatley mentioned that other cities charge sales persons the 550 and that efforts
have been made by Dania to make the fees reasonable. The Dania Equity Study Committee
was formed to review fees and make changes whenever needed.
Eula Gardner, Building Department, reported that the Equity Committee has recommended
to change the way auto rental businesses arc charged for occupational licenses noting that
r based on the number of cars in their lot. The
Dollar Rent-A-Car figured out to S54,000 a yea
board recommended to use a cap amount on the cars to make the fee more reasonable.
Commissioner Bertino disagreed with this concept since some car businesses can have cars
ranging from a few hundred to thousands.
Mr. Flatley presented the board's recommendation to charge Security firms on the number of
guards as follows: 1-5-3125.00, 6-10—$162.00, 11-25-$262.00, and over 25—$335.00. The
