City Manager Flatley mentioned that this meeting was scheduled with Steve Snyder, Seafair, to discuss the upcoming lease amendment for March of 1993 and to present an update on the hotel proposal projected for the beach area. { Steve Snyder, President of Aragon Group, Inc., explained that the plans for the hotel have been n financing for the project based on the economic condition placed on hold due to the inability to obtai of the country over the past few years. Recognizing this problem, he engaged the firm of Seaman, Larson & Marsh, landplanners, to review the entire project in order to make recommendations for possible development alternatives. He then introduced Charles Seaman and asked the Commission to allow him to present his proposal. Charles Seaman, Seaman, Larson & Marsh, stated that his firm analyzed several different development alternatives for the site and determined that the probability of a significantly attractive economically feasible project were not apparent. In observing the site, he did recommend the possibility of developing an educational marine facility modeled after the Virginia Beach Marine Science Museum. The center would serve as a school program and community educational facility that would have a 30,000 gallon tank aquarium. He felt that the Seafair structure could be converted to a Marine Science Education Facility/Marine p Science Museum/Sports Fishing Museum which would take great advantage of the natural resources surrounding the site. His other recommendation was to consider the site for development of the New World Aquarium which is proposed with Broward County and the Board of Education which would provide a viable fund raising alternative. Vice Mayor Mikes mentioned the need for the City to obtain some source of revenue from the beach area and Commissioner Bertino said that his understanding was that Fort Lauderdale wanted the New World Aquarium located within their city.
