Home My WebLink AboutO-1993-002 02-93 ORDINANCE NO- AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, CALLING LLINGOA REFERENDUM ELECTION ON THE 9TH DAY OF MARCH, THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO SECTION 3, ARTICLE 1 OF PART II OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF DANIA, RELATING TO THE NUMBER OF CONSECUTIVE TERMS A COMMISSIONER CAN HOLD OFFICE; PRESCRIBING THE FORM OF BALLOT; DIRECTING THE ADVERTISING OF SUCH ELECTION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA: Section I. That a special referendum election is called for i 1993, during the hours of 7 :00 a.m. Tuesday, the 9th day of March, to 7 :00 P.M. Section 2 . The following amendment to the Charter of the City of Dania is proposed for approval by referendum of the electors: Section 3, Article 1 of Part II of the City of Dania Charter is amended by adding a new paragraph thereto by inserting the � new words as set forth in underscored type below as follows: "Sec. 3. Qualification of members. _ To be eligible to hold the office of city commissioner of the City of Dania, or to qualify for nomination or election as such, the candidate shall be a bona fide resident of the City of Dania and a citizen of the United States of America; shall be duly qualified to vote at city, state and national elections; shall be over the age of twenty-one (21 ) d in the said city for six (6) years; shall have reside months immediately precedin 9 the date in thisticharter shall be otherwise qualified provided. Candidates for nomination or election for the office of city commissioner shall comply with all the rules and regulations set out in the charter as to their conduct. Any commissioner who shall cease to ! possess the qualifications required herein shall I{ forthwith forfeit his office. Section 3. The question to be submitted to the electorate is a proposed amendment to Section 3, Article 1 of Part II of the Charter of the City of Dania as proposed in this ordinance shall be in the following form: OUESTIGN Shall Section 3, Article 1 , of Part II of the Dania Charter entitled "Qualification of , Members" , be amended to provide that a city commissioner shall not serve more than two (2 ) consecutive four year terms in office with a full two (2 ) year interval before serving additional terms of office with said amendment to be prospective and not retroactive, and shall become effective for commissioners elected after March 9, 1993.
