RESOLUTION NO. 05-93
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING SOUTH FLORIDA REGIONAL PLANNING
COUNCIL' S RESOLUTION ADVOCATING A
COMPREHENSIVE, REGIONAL APPROACH TO THE
ANALYSIS AND SOLUTION OF PROBLEMS AFFECTING
FLORIDA BAY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA,
FLORIDA:
Section 1 . That the City Commission of the City of Dania hereby
expresses its strong support of South Florida Regional Planning

the analysis and solution of problems affecting Florida Bay, a copy
of which Resolution is attached hereto as "Exhibit A" .
Section 2 . That a copy hereof shall be furnished to the South F
Florida Regional Planning Council and to other persons as directed by (( rr
the City Manager.

Section 3 . That this resolution shall be in force and take
effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.

STATEMENT OF THE SOUTH FLORIDA REGIONAL FLAN iNG COUNCIL, ADVOCATING A
COy1PREHETsMVF REGIONAL APPROACH TO THE ANALYSIS AIND SOLUTION OF
i PROBLEMS AFFECTING FLORIDA BAY. -

j WHEREAS State Comprehensive Plan Goal 8 commits the state to assure the availability of an
adequate supply of water for all competmg uses and to maintain the functions of natural systems
and the level of surface and ground water quality;
WHEREAS Regional Goal 8.1 of the Regional Pian jor South Florida directs that water supply, water i
use and water demand be efficiently managed so that adequate,sustainable quantities are available
in a cost-effective manner for residential, industrial and agricultural needs, while maintaining
I adequate volumes to sustain natural ecosystems; i
WHEREAS Regional Goa18Z of the Regional PLzn for South Farida directs that groundwater quality
and quantity be protected,and,where feasible,water quality be improved; I
6 WHEREAS the hydrologic system which extends from the Kissimmee River Basin south through
` the Everglades and into Florida Bay is a continuous ecosystem which has been subjected to man-
. male ma,iiF,-atiem aver the Years 1Q serve the Often comp tinv needs of its DrinciDal users; _
WHEREAS this hydrologic system is a critical component of the natural systems which sustain
activities in BrOWard, Dade and Monroe Counties;in turn, land use decisions by local governments
in this region have a strong impact on the health and vitality of the natural systems;and
WHEREAS the scientific community has observed a significant degradation of water quality in
Florida Bav in recent years, with consequent impacts on the surrounding waters of the Florida
Keys,and has attributed these impacts to the reduced flow of fresh water into Florida Bay;
I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SOUTH FLORIDA REGIONAL PLANNING
f COUNCIL that:

The South Florida Regional Planning Council shall seek to become involved in discussions of the
problems occurring in Florida Bay and shall promote a comprehensive solution which incorporates
a system-uide, regional approach.
