PARK STREET TO HILL STREET; PROVIDING FOR S,. DISTRIBUTION;AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in 1908 Ezra Frank and Mary Ellen Hill, together with their three children, Nettie, Luther Ernest and Ethel Mae, traveled by covered wagon from Blue Licks, Kentucky to Paris, Kentucky, where they boarded a train headed south to their final destination, the City of Dania, Florida; and WHEREAS, the decision to"uproot"his family was made partially for health reasons and partially because located on the former site of the Oakridge Co of the urging of Ezra's cousin, John Mullikin, first mayor of our city, and, at that time, owner of an orange grove untry Club property;and WHEREAS, after the family settled in Dania, three more children were born to Ezra Frank and Mary Ellen, " namely, Elbert Larkin ("Buster"), Naoma Ruth ("Peggy") and Clinton F. ("C,F."), who is the sole surviving child r.. of this pioneer family; and n I WHEREAS, from the date of their arrival in 1908, the Hill Family has, in so many ways, contributed to the rich history of our city. During the Tomato Day festivities, Ethel Mae Hill (Adams) always won the fastest hf T packer contest and her brother, Luther, was judged the number one crate maker; a farmer by trade, Ezra Frank many hours each ` r day caring for the plants growing in his tree nursery. Naoma Ruth ("Peggy"), one of the three children born to Hill passed on his love for the land to his children. His surviving son, Clinton,"C.F.", spends Ezra Frank and Mary Ellen Hill after their arrival in Dania, grew up to become the mother of one of our former mayors, Charles K. 'Mac"McElyea, and Vera, wife of Elbert Hill served as our cit 's m "Buster" yayor from 1963 to 1964;and Y WHEREAS, the city commission desires to recognize the Hill Family for their outstanding contributions to L' our city. FLORIDA: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA J f lion l That the City Commission of the City of Dania, individually and on behalf of all citizens of our {{1 t ( , community, wishes to demonstrate and express its appreciation and thanks to the Hill Family for their many contributions made to the history of our city, does hereby change the name of"N.W. Park Street"to"Hill Street" ` ) ' by which name it shall forever hereinafter be known and referred to. ! Section 2 That a ceremony formally dedicating this street shall be held at a date and time to be announced. "Y'13 r Section 3 That a true copy hereof shall be furnished to the C.F. Hill Family, Broward County, the U.S. f Postal Service and to such others as may be directed by the city manager. Section 4 That this resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage and 4+ adoption.
