The purpose of this program is to provide ways and means of improving boating
safety in Broward County by enhancing marine law enforcement and education.
Attached is a list of the areas that the Broward County Marine Advisory Committee
feels are in need of supplemental law enforcement. Our desire is that law
enforcement agencies utilize the Local Option Vessel Registration Fee approved
by the Board of County Commissioners to supplement existing services in their
area of jurisdiction. Coordination with other law enforcement agencies that have

<d jurisdiction in Broward County is encouraged, and may be necessary, to enable the
applicant agency to provide the enhanced needed coverage as desired.

INNOVATIVE ENHANCED LAM ENFORCEMENT PROGRAMS: This project category is set up to
allow applicants to come up with unique programs to improve beating safety in
Broward County above and beyond existing levels of marine law enforcement.

Applicants which submit this type of grant proposal are encouraged to develop new k �
and innovative programs. Examples of this could be Providing
patrol a specific area, operating while intoxicated patrols etc1CQ details to i
POLICE PERSONNEL: This project category allows applicants to apply for funding
for one year, to increase the existing level of marine law enforcement. Examples ! 3 y
Of this could be providing for police overtime, training for new, reserve, or jr
auxiliary officers, etc, or as seed money to start a new marine
department. These projects will be funded for one year only, Police
POLICE FACILITY PROJECTS: This project category would allow the applicant to e '
request improvements or to enlarged marine Police facilities, such as new or n
,A reconfigured police boat docks, etc.
P01_ICE EQUIPMENT: This project type would allow applicants to apply for new or
replacement equipment for marine law enforcement that is not funded in the
applicants budget. Examples of this kind of project could include police radar
units, waterproof video cameras, replacement boats or engines, or new boats or
engines to a enlarge
department, etc, g marine police department or start a new marine police
BOATING SAFETY PUBLIC INFORMATION: This category is not limited to applicants who
are police agencies. This project type would allow the applicant to apply to fund I 'f °sb
projects which would improve boating safety in Broward County through public ,
information. Examples of this type of project could be, boating safetypamphlets, «�
boating safety classes, improved signage, etc.
