HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1998-086 1 RESOLUTION NO. 86-98 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA SUPPORTING BROWARD COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' PROPOSAL TO LEVY AN ADDITIONAL ONE (1) CENT MOTOR FUEL TAX AND DESIGNATE THE EQUIVALENT AMOUNT OF GENERAL FUNDS NOW USED FOR TRANSPORTATION TO BE USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR HOMELESS SERVICES; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, there has been overwhelming recent local and legislative support for Broward County's proposal to use one (1) cent of its local option motor fuel tax to address the needs of our community's 5,000 homeless children, women, men and families; and WHEREAS, despite that support, Broward County's request to use one cent of a its local option gas tax for homeless programs was not heard by the Florida House of Representatives; and WHEREAS, the need still exists for a recurring revenue source for homeless programs and to leverage federal funds for same; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA; Section 1. That the City of Dania supports the proposal of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners to levy an additional one (1) cent motor fuel tax and designate the equivalent amount of general funds now used for transportation to be used exclusively for homeless services. Section 2. That the City of Dania, Florida will, subject to an Interlocal Agreement, designate its portion of the additional one (1) cent tax to countywide homeless services. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 86-98 I two., _ . i � Section 4.
