RESOLUTION NO. 71-98
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA APPROVING THAT
CERTAIN PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF DANIA AND
COLLINS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE FORM SHOWN AS ATTACHED
EXHIBIT "A"; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA,
FLORIDA, THAT:

SECTION 1: That certain Partnership Agreement between the City of Dania and Collins
Elementary School, in substantial form as Exhibit "A", attached, is approved and the
appropriate City Officials are authorized to execute it. The City Manager and the City Attorney
are authorized to make minor revisions to such Partnership Agreement as they may deem
necessary.
SECTION 2: This Resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage
and adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 28th day of April, 1998.

PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT
THIS IS AN AGREEMENT, entered into on 1998 between
COLLINS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (the "School") and THE CITY OF DANIA (the "City").
WHEREAS, cities and schools may share resources to support each other's goals
and objectives; and
WHEREAS, this collaboration provides the opportunity to develop a seamless
"communication infrastructure' between City officials, City staff and their respective
counterparts in the Broward County School District; and
WHEREAS, better educated and highly skilled employees of cities and schools will
enhance the quality of the work forces of each of those employers and the quality of their
community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, partnerships between cities and schools can instill a sense of civic
pride and responsibility in students that will last far beyond their education experience;
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the covenants and conditions set forth in
1 this Agreement, the parties agree as follows:
ARTICLE I
iThe parties agree that the foregoing recitals are true, correct and incorporated into
this Agreement by this reference.
ARTICLE II
The City, in partnership with School, agrees to:
1. Provide recognition for students, teachers, School staff and volunteers who
have achieved excellence and rendered service for or on behalf of the City and education.
2. Work with School students to establish internships, mentorships, shadowing
programs and provide community service opportunities for them by interaction with City
staff members.

j 3. Where appropriate, allow the use of City facilities as teaching centers, with
actual issues and programs incorporated into lesson plans for students.

4. Provide exposure to School programs at City events and in City publications
including, but not limited to, display of student artwork and other cultural arts or academic
presentations.
5. Allow and recruit other schools to participate in City events.
i6. Jointly offer community education programs on topics of interest common to
School and City including, but not limited to, homework assistance, recreation programs,
available City services, civic involvement, Kids Voting, Student Government Day, etc.
7. Encourage students to cover City issues in school publications and include
School pieces in City publications.
8. Encourage area residents to become volunteers in schools and, when
possible, provide support to senior volunteers that may have difficulty getting to schools.
9. Use City time on local cable television to promote joint activities.
10. Assist schools in developing school improvement plans, conducting needs
assessments and providing support for identification of community resources.
11. Incorporate School Board Industry Services training programs into City
Human Resources Programs.
ARTICLE III
School, in partnership with City, agrees to:
1. Provide recognition for City staff who have achieved excellence and rendered
service for or on behalf of the community, the School and education.
2. Identify students for participation in internships, mentorships, shadowing
programs and community service opportunities for them by interaction with City staff
members.
3. Identify City facilities that can enhance the curriculum of School by serving
as living laboratories and off-campus classrooms.
4. Provide exposure to City and community programs at School events and in

5. Allow and recruit other schools to participate in City events.

6. Jointly offer community education programs on topics of interest common to
School and City including, but not limited to, homework assistance, recreation programs,
available City services, Student Government Day, Kids Voting, etc.
7. Encourage students to cover City issues in School publications and include
City pieces in School publications.
8. Encourage City employees to take active roles in the School's improvement
efforts and provide training for individuals participating in School programs.
9. Provide the City with the opportunity to lease School facilities during non-
school hours and according to School Board policies.
ARTICLE IV
There is no financial impact to the School Board of Broward County, Florida for this
program.
ARTICLE V

This Agreement is continuing in nature and may be terminated by either party upon
thirty (30) days written notice to the other party with or without cause. All notices under this
Agreement shall be given to the Superintendent of the School Board of Broward County,
Florida at 600 S.E. Third Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33301 and to the City at 100
West Dania Beach Boulevard, Dania, Florida 33004.
IN WITNESS OF THE FOREGOING, the parties have executed this Agreement
effective on the day and year first above written.
