A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING REVISIONS #1, #3 AND #5 TO THE FLORIDA
CONSTITUTION, AND ENCOURAGING THE CITIZENRY OF
THE CITY OF DANIA TO VOTE "YES" TO THESE REVISIONS;
FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
i
WHEREAS, the Legislature has proposed Revisions #1 (amending Article VI,
Sections 3 and 4; Article XII, Section 22) and Revision #3 (amending Article VII, Section
6) of the Florida Constitution and the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) has
proposed Revision #5 (amending Article II, Section 7(a); Article IV, Section 9; Article VII,
I
Section 11(e)-(f); Article X, s.18 and Article XII, s.22) of the Florida Constitution; and
WHEREAS, if passed by the electorate, Revision #1, "Historic Property Tax
Exemption and Assessment", would remove the requirement that the owner of historic
property, granted ad valorem tax exemption by a county or municipality, must be
engaged in renovating the property. The revision would authorize the Legislature to
allow counties or municipalities, by ordinance, to assess historic properties solely on the
basis of character or use for ad valorem tax purposes, subject to eligibility requirements
specified by general law; and
WHEREAS, if passed by the electorate, Revision #3, "Additional Homestead Tax
Exemption", would authorize an amendment to the State Constitution, effective January
1, 1999, and allow the Legislature to permit counties and municipalities the authority to
grant an additional homestead tax exemption not exceeding $25,000 to certain persons
65 years of age or older whose household income does not exceed a specified amount;
and
1 RESOLUTION NO. 166-98
1 WHEREAS, if passed by the electorate, Revision #5 would provide for the
creation of a Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission; further, it contains several
issues of importance relating to the conservation of natural resources, and it would
expand the current constitution to state: "Adequate provision shall be made by law for
the abatement of air and water pollution and of excessive and unnecessary noise for the
conservation and protection of natural resources"; and
WHEREAS, Revision #5 would also include a statement in the state Constitution
that would prevent the Legislature from relaxing standards for disposing of land
acquired under programs like Preservation 2000; assure that land acquired for
conservation will not be easily sold, which would defeat the purpose of the acquisition
programs, which statement would send a message to the Legislature that Florida
citizens take their natural resources seriously;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF DANIA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City of Dania does hereby support and endorse passage of
Revisions #1, #3 and #5 to the Florida Constitution, and urges its citizenry to vote "Yes"

this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities.
