HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1998-127 i i RESOLUTION NO. 127-98 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, IN SUPPORT OF THE CONCEPTUAL PLAN COMPREHENSIVE I REVIEW STUDY OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH FLORIDA PROJECT ("C&SF PROJECT") DEVELOPED BY THE GOVERNORS COMMISSION FOR A SUSTAINABLE SOUTH FLORIDA; PROVIDING AUTHORIZATION AND DIRECTION TO THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE BROWARD COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION, THE COMMISSION OF EACH CITY IN BROWARD COUNTY, THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES, THE BROWARD COUNTY LEAGUE OF CITIES, AND OTHER INTERESTED GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Everglades is a vital part of Florida's natural heritage and is recognized nationally and internationally as one of the world's most significant but imperiled ecosystems; and WHEREAS, the Everglades National Park has been declared by the United States Department of Interior as the most threatened national park in the country; and WHEREAS, the economic and environmental sustainability of south Florida is dependent upon a healthy Everglades ecosystem; and WHEREAS, the Conceptual Plan was unanimously approved by the Governor's Commission for Sustainable South Florida; and WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan for C&SF Restudy will take into consideration the Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida Conceptual Plan.; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA; Section 1. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this resolution. Section 2: The City endorses and supports the Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida's Conceptual Plan for the C&SF Project Restudy .y✓ and the efforts to complete the United State Army Corp of Engineers "Restudy.". I 1 RESOLUTION NO. 127-98 I i Section 3: The City Commission directs the City Staff to work with the m - South Florida Water Management District staff to keep them informed of the proposed land use amendment changes and provide the South Florida Water Management District the opportunity to comment on said proposed amendments. Section 4: The City will attempt to take future actions which are consistent with the Conceptual Plan and the Restudy. Section 5: The City Clerk is hereby directed to provide certified copies of this Resolution to the Broward County Legislative Delegation, the City Commission of each City in Broward County, the Florida League of Cities, the Broward County League of Cities, the Governing Board and Executive Director of the South Florida Water Management District and to the District Engineer, Jacksonville District, of the United States Army Corp of Engineers, and any other interested governmental agencies. Section 6: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 7: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by the court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining i portions or applications of this Resolution. Section 8: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED on the 25t'day of August, 1998.
