HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1997-052 1 RESOLUTION NO.52-97 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF DAN MARINO TO REQUEST THAT THE STATE LEGISLATURE SUPPORT A BILL PROVIDING FOR THE MEDICAL AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT OF AUTISTIC CHILDREN; REQUESTING THAT THE BILL BE INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED SHALL INCLUDE A BROAD SPECTRUM OF CHILDREN OTHERWISE AFFECTED BY AUTISM AND OTHER NEUROBIOLOGICAL DISORDERS; PROVIDING FOR ALTERNATIVES TO THE MEDICAL MODELS OTHERWISE ESTABLISHED BY APPROPRIATE NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS; PROVIDING FOR ADDITIONAL SUPPORT ITEMS IN CONNECTION WITH fl THIS LEGISLATION; PROVIDING THAT THIS RESOLUTION BE SENT TO THE BROWARD COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF EACH CITY IN BROWARD COUNTY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA; WHEREAS, Autism is a complex and puzzling neurobiological disorder that severely impairs the ability of an individual to process and integrate ordinary information; and WHEREAS, at this time there is a serious lack of medical and educational support for autistic children prior to the age of eight years; and WHEREAS, Dan Marino has addressed the Health and Human Services Committee with a request to introduce a Bill to provide for these services; and WHEREAS, it is anticipated by this City that legislation to be prepared and considered shall further include a broad spectrum of children affected by neurobiological disorders and not limited solely to age; and 1 RESOLUTION NO. 52-97 A Ir I WHEREAS, the City Commission further requests that in consideration of such a bill, that alternative medical models be otherwise considered and that the additional support items be included within such legislation; and i WHEREAS, it is hoped that this Resolution will be considered as a serious attempt on the part of this City Commission to benefit the needs of children, young adults, and others affected by neurobiological disorders who would serve to benefit by legislation in the State of Florida to provide for appropriate intensive early intervention to reduce future costs to both families of affected children and to all tax payers in the State of Florida, in Broward County and in the City of Dania. Section 1. That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby rue and correct and are hereby ratified and confirmed as being t Y made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption hereof. Section 2. That the City Commission of the City of Dania, Florida, fully support Mr. Marino's request and in doing so urges the Broward County Legislative Delegation to introduce the necessary bill. Section 3. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Broward County Legislative Delegation and each City in Broward County. Section 4.
