HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1997-169 m� RESOLUTION NO. 169-97 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, REQUESTING A PORTION OF BROWARD COUNTY TOURIST DEVELOPMENT TAXES TO OFFSET iMUNICIPAL EXPENDITURES FOR BEACH MAINTENANCE. WHEREAS, Broward County attracts over 6 million visitors per year; and WHEREAS, Broward County receives over $12 Million in tourist development tax receipts from these visitors; and WHEREAS, the original and core attraction for these visitors is the beach and waterways; and WHEREAS, a significant portion of the tourist development tax is attributable to business directly related to the beachfront and its development; and WHEREAS, the maintenance of our beaches is paramount to ensuring the continued attractiveness of Broward County as a tourist destination; and WHEREAS, beach maintenance is identified as a proper purpose for the expenditure of tourist development tax revenue pursuant to Section 125.0104, k' Florida Statutes; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA; Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania requests that Broward County provide a portion of its tourist development tax to cities to provide beach maintenance. 1 RESOLUTION NO.169-97 Section 2. That the cities providing beach maintenance receive funding on a pro rata basis using the length of each city's beachfront. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. That this resolution shall be force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 9 DAY OF DECEMBER 1997.
